Whiteside Machine Company has been in the router bit business for over 30 years providing customer with quality products while at the same time striving to achieve complete customer satisfaction. Several woodworking magazines have tested Whiteside versus the competition and selected Whiteside as the winner for best router bits available in the market. Whiteside Machine Company was founded in 1970 as a general purpose machine shop in the basement of Bill & Bobbie Whiteside's home. Located in Western North Carolina near the furniture manufacturing town of Hickory, the company was often involved in making repairs or special parts for the furniture and woodworking field. A strong commitment to customer problem-solving, a can-do attitude, and innovative ideas, along with a growing core of dedicated employees, helped the business evolve into a manufacturer of woodworking equipment and tooling. Primarily through repeat business and referrals, the tooling business continued to grow to meet a demand for quality production router bits as well as custom application tooling. Today, Whiteside Machine occupies a 40,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility and produces a complete line of solid carbide and carbide tipped router bits. Whiteside's quality, innovation, and customer commitment is still present in our superb product line, in the design of custom tooling to fill special customer requirements, and in the development of special machinery and tooling for our own manufacturing use. As always, Whiteside Machine is continuously striving to improve our product through new technology, improved production techniques, and ongoing research and development efforts; along with rigid quality control, vital customer feedback and extensive field testing. Whiteside Machine Company.

Why would a new router bit show up in a plastic bag with saw dust on it?

I’m not a professional but have done Woodwork for many years. Yes, the bits are more expensive but the quality is superior to what you get from other cheaper tool companies. I do metal work as well so I compare the quality. These bits stand up well in comparison to a good end mill. Clean lines, very sharp, and excellent materials make a good combination.Basically, if you think you’re in it for the long haul, this will last.

Bit seems to be good quality, but be careful removing the packaging. Sliced two fingers taking off the heat shrunk plastic around the bit and needed 7 stitches.

I made a little jig, use used this to create huge dovetail joints (1.375 wide and 1" deep). This made smooth and beautiful cuts.I had a flaw in my jig that allowed the bit to hit part of a cast-iron tabletop. It made a smooth gouge in the cast iron, and did not suffer any bad results. Still razor sharp.

I have used its sisters at 1/2 and 1 inch versions and I am plenty glad with them. The 1/2 inch bit is the most used for my furniture projects and the 1 inch version is used for applications involving bigger wood planks as my workbench I am currently working on.I used this particular bit only for a test making a tapered sliding dovetail and all indicates it is a par with its sisters in quality and performance. I purchased it as the intermediate tool for those so useful already used bits.Recommended.

Good bit. This one came quite sharp, and cuts pine like butter; I haven't used it on hardwood quite yet. It's hefty because of the 1/2" shank, which I like because the extra mass lets it soak up a bit more heat without burning the wood, if I need it to take a heavy cut. I'm very pleased with this, and it's roughly on parity with Freud or another high-end manufacturer's products. If you've never used anything but the cheap stuff that comes in a set of 10 or 20 bits for thirty bucks, trying a really good bit like this will change your life as a woodworker.
