Patience is needed for this project. You could run into space problems, rust, frozen parts, tight springs and leaking water from removing hoses. The right tools help (I had to rent a 'puller' tool). On a score of 1 (easy) to 5 (hardest), this is defiantly a strong 4.Final result worth the effort.

This tub seal fit like a glove. The washer has to be taken apart quite a bit to replace the tub seal. I would watch a few youtube vids to get the directions for installing. For a few dollars my washer is leak free and working perfectly.

The new front loading high efficiency washers are terrible as everybody knows. They constantly break because the bearings are Fighting Gravity, that use very little water, and extremely expensive to fix. I've had my Whirlpool for 12 years and it has been great. It started leaking about a month ago and I bought this tub gasket, very inexpensive, it took about 2 hours to replace and now the washer is like new. Keep your old washers and dryers they are the best things out there compared to the garbage that government regulations are forcing us to purchase.... this casket was great I'm glad I did not get rid of my washing machine.. as far as replacing the gasket goes, just jump on YouTube... there are several videos that show you how to do this step by step it is not a difficult task at all.

If you read or watch any of the videos or instructions on how to replace this, it isn't anything like what they describe. To actually get this piece in you have to take apart the entire washer and the instructions use a new unused washer to show you how it is done. If you are replacing this, then your washer is decades old and will not go as described. You will need a hammer to hammer the washer spin basket out while lifting it and the entire washer up. If this piece of worn out after decades of use a lot of other parts may be rusting and on its final stages of use. It took me several hours just to replace this piece because I had to experiment on how to get the spin basket off of the drive block. And while you have that out you might as well clean the decades of dirt sitting at the bottom of your washer. This piece will probably last me another few decades, but the rest of the washer will probably last 1-5 years. Is it really worth replacing this piece if your washer is decades old? You need to decide this. Especially if your washer like might is in a small washer and dryer room and there is little to no room to maneuver.

I used this with some old-school gasket shellac (as seen on YouTube). Paint the outer seal groove, fold/press the seal into the tub, rotate the seal a half-turn to ensure everything is fully in place and straight, slide tub onto the center post using a bit of silicone lube, then let dry for an hour or so. If you're into the washer this far, take an extra 5 min and also replace the 2 sets of 3-each nylon skid pads ( and so that the tub won't shake as much, which is usually what makes this seal start to leak. Keep these direct-drive washers going - they are easy & cheap to fix, very reliable, and even get your clothes clean. No pillows, shoes, or other unbalanced loads though, since those really tear up this type of washer.
