Quality built machine, runs smooth and quiet, variable speed, easy to assemble tool rests and bit guide although the bit guide could be a tad beefier but overall happy with my purchase

I like the grinder. It’s powerful and fits my needs. It came with a slight vibration but nothing that was a concern. Recently, that vibration became so bad that I couldn’t use it. I tried switching wheels but that didn’t help so I contacted the company and they are replacing it with a new unit, no questions asked. A great example of outstanding customer service!

My woodworking hobby demands sharp tools. I wanted an 8" variable speed grinder to allow me to perform more refined grinding for my turning gouges, bench chisels, and plane blades. I outfitted the Wen with a oneway sharpening jig and upgraded one of the wheels to a NAGU CBN 180 grit wheel and could not be happier. The Wen is a solid machine with a comforting weight and solid feel despite the plastic case. Replacing the CBD wheel and installing the oneway jig system was simple. The WEN rumbles a little at start-up, but once the tool has achieved its target speed, it runs smooth as silk. For the price, this is an excellent variable speed bench grinder, I have no complaints.

Received the grinder in good condition because it was well packed. Assembly was easy with a good basic manual. Bolted it to my work bench and it ran in all speeds with little vibration. The two abrasive wheelsare working ok. The gray wheel had a 1/2mm wobble. Not bad. Speed control worked very well. The only down side is that the motor is very noisy in all but full speed, but I can live with that since it is not in a professional shop. A good machine for the price.

I will allow that some buyers may have received defective unit, which resulted in a negative review. However, with the exception of a few minor details, the unit I received was just fine.Right off the bat, except for a few small differences, this grinder seems to be the same one Grizzly sells for $160.00, plus $19.00 shipping. The differences are that the Grizzly has different wheel grits and does not come with either a dressing tool or an extra tool rest. Plus, the Grizzly owners manual is much better than the Wen. I don't mean to put Grizzly down here because their customer support is outstanding. But if money is tight, you CAN save $69.00 on Wen vrs the Grizzly, which would allow you to buy a couple of extra wheels and a diamond grit dressing tool if you want,Some buyers have complained that the light won't work unless the main power switch is turned on. Wen apparently has taken note of this because on the unit I received you can turn the light on whether or not the main power switch is turned on.Both wheels wobble side to side a very small amount. But this doesn't cause any noticeable vibration. I will eventually bolt the unit to a home made stand. Surprisingly however, the grinder I got runs so smoothly and is heavy enough that I can use it for the time being sitting directly on its rubber feet on my work bench.I had a definite reason for buying this grinder. I am just beginning to take up turning and got a great deal on a used Delta 1460 wood lathe. However I have found that a set of the best lathe chisels are going to run north of $350.00. I decided instead to buy this grinder and a set of HSS chisels from Harbor Freight for $64.00. The chisels are really quite nice except they are useless unless you sharpen them first. So now I have lathe chisels that work just fine, plus a dandy grinder - all for maybe half what a deluxe set of chisels would have cost.

Best value for the money even if the tool rests at each wheel and the eye guards are somewhat flimsy--can be replaced at a later date if needed.Update:I had much the same experience as another reviewer with this WEN grinder who uses a Wolverine with it. Surprisingly good for the money. I have a Wolverine Grind N' Hone system and mounting it was easy by simply installing the WEN on a ply board and putting the rubber feet from the WEN on the bottom of the ply board and then setting up the Wolverine--it will be a little off center of the wheel but this is not an issue. Works like a charm. No vibration with the feet on the WEN, some mild vibration with the feet on the ply board but overall good. Very quiet. I trued the grey wheel and will replace it anyway for a high quality ceramic one but I would do that for most of the grinders under $300 on the market anyway. One issue that was likely a very "cheap" design decision: the light does not come on unless you switch on the grinder wheel! Think about it for 1 second..., yah, you got it. So why did their design team not get it?! For that its a 4/5 stars.

would have giving this a 5/5 although I needed to reorder this as my first shipment came with two left side too rest and no right tool rest. However the second shipment was great and came with everything I needed. Works wonderfully!

Just set this up last night and so far I just love it. It is very heavy and has zero vibration. The tool rests are very sturdy and there is a separate tool rest with the groove built in for sharpening drill bits that fits right over the already installed rest on the right side with the ultra fine stone. The variable speed and light are also great features. An 8 inch grinder for this price is a steal. I think it will be a winner overall and will give years of great service for the home hobbyist.

It works better than I thought. This is the first time buying one of these so wasn’t sure what to expect. All the other ones I have used are really old.I bought this mainly for repairing and making throwing knives. The two different stones are perfect for the task. The variable speed is also great and makes it much easier as I prefer to keep the speed lower for sharpening. The light and all the other features it comes with just add to it.The 8” size is bigger than what I really need but don’t regret it at all. Very solidly built and very smooth running.

I bought the 8" Variable for $100 and it is a great grinder! For $100 dollars it is a solid bench grinder, I was expecting a small dinky thing however this thing is quite beefy. I'd say it weighs around 30-40 pounds and is pretty good for a made in China grinder. There was minimal vibration out of the box but it still existed. Upon closer inspection both wheels were wobbling center to left about a millimeter or two. I took both wheels off, the left wheel was fine but the right finer grit wheel was misshaped by about a millimeter according to my calipers. However I centered the bushings as best I could and tightened it down really well and the vibration has all but stopped. At lower RPM it vibrates the right plate guard but other then that it is fine. The left wheel no longer wobbles but the right wheel still has a slight wobble. I don't know about the cheaper version, but the Variable speed model is great and I have no regrets buying it.
