I started working with a trainer a couple of years ago, lifting with free weights and cable machines.I was making good progress, but my hands couldn't handle the increasing weight.I bought a pair of these lifting hooks, and it's been a game changer. They've allowed me to keep working out with progressively heavier weights. I even use them with the rope attachment for the cable machine because the hook is the perfect size to fit around the rope while being smaller than the end caps on the ropes.I've been using them 2-3 times a week for the last year and a half and they're still holding up great.Recently I found a new use for them, which is using one hook with a gas powered weed whacker. One hand has to be directly on the handle of the machine to operator the throttle, but the other hand can use the hook to hold the bar on the machine. This provides some vibration isolation, and keeps your hand from having to use its strength. When cutting a lot of weeds, this greatly reduces the pain the weed whacker usually causes. This is a great product, and I'm buying a second pair so that I always have a backup.

Problem - my body can handle more weight than my grip can accommodate. Solution - lifting hooks. Allowed me to get to lifting 100 lb dumbbells which is what I bought them for. This reverse hook works far better that the other hooks that go in the same direction as your grip.I do have one criticism. This hook needs to be smaller, and slightly curved over more than it is. The hook is larger than it needs to be for typical gym bars, and it is slightly too large for the average grip size.

So first-off, I don't really understand the nature of the complaints from some of the negative reviewers. These are a little bit bulky but that's because of the width of both the strap and the hooks - but that's a good thing as I will explain. I purchased these primarily to assist with my deadlifts. My deadlifts were largely limited by my grip strength and I had a hard time getting over 380 lbs for more than 3-4 reps. these have enabled me to push well past 400 at full sets. The straps are very wide and stiff which means a strong and secure fit on the wrist without folding or pinching down under load. My previous wraps would gather tightly and bite into my wrists which was sometimes painful so I eventually stopped using them. These stay flat and hence do not distract or cause discomfort. The hook is a broad flat design which allows the bar to sit flat and, again, makes for a more stable and hence confident lift. I wrap my fingers around the hook for stability and can still grip the bar with my thumb for extra security and control. I do not have particularly big hands or long fingers - pretty average if I base it on my colleagues or friends. I do not get a fully clenched grip but it's a functional grip nevertheless. Lighter lifts, such as dumbbell rows, I still do without these as I still want to train my grip.

Go for it blindly when you have severe calluses which impinge on your progressive overload journey for barbell exercises like rows, shrugs or the underrated deadlifts! When you have calluses torn so deep underneath, there is every possibility of the thin skin getting susceptible to tear which may require medical attention. This is my savior! Glad there are people who bring out products like this.

So this is a bit tough to rate. The build quality so far seems really fantastic. The materials are very tough, all the stitching is well done, the padding is excellent, the velcro is very strong and doesn't budge, the price is fair. The only problem is that you cannot adjust where the hook rests in your palm. For me, I need the hook to rest higher up in my palm os that I can have less of the load out on my fingertips. I am only 5'6" and I have smaller hands. lifting heavy weight the hook is always resting more on my fingertips. If there was an adjustment for this, I would easily give them 5 stars. Unfortunately, this small consideration creates a big issue in terms of how functional the hooks are. I'd say anyone over 5'10" will probably find these very very useful.

I wanted to give this 5 stars. Comfort, effectiveness, quality, all great. My only problem is, I'm 6'7 so I have large hands and the actual "hook" is not as wide as my hand. So when I use it, one of my fingers has to be on the outside of the hook which is awkward. I'm adjusting and getting used to it so its not a huge deal, but did knock it down a star. Only other complaint which is with all hooks is that once you hit failure, you can't just let the weight go, you have to set it down and clear the hook. But thats with them all. Overall though, best assistance I've had on super heavy lifts. Was able to finally burn out on shrugs lifting 560 lbs for a set of 11 and then 8.

I've been using cloth and then leather lifting straps for years. They never seem to last very long regardless of the material. Regular straps are time consuming to properly wrap around a bar or a dumbbell. I got about a year out of my last pair of Schiek leather lifting straps I used them 3-4 days a week doing shoulder shrugs on a bar with 315 - 495 pounds, pull-ups, abdominal pull downs, side bends and upper back shrugs on an incline bench.Time for a new approach. These hooks arrived and I got two solid workouts with them and I can tell they are perfect for my purposes. I'll use the "pro" and "con" approach:Pro - securely attach to wrists, heavy duty Velcro and coated metal lifting hooks. The biggest advantage I see with these lifting hooks over traditional cloth/leather wrist straps is that there is NO "wrapping time" with the hooks versus straps. Wrapping with any wrist strap is sort of an art and it's also time consuming. Not having to wrap the hooks speeds up my workout, allows me to do faster sets and transition between exercises more rapidly. I can do heavy bar weight or sets of ten pull-ups relying only on the hooks, not my hands which is great for me because I have multiple hand injuries from 40 years of ice hockey along with arthritis. These straps may also potentially prevent forearm tendinitis down the road. On other advantage of the hooks over straps is that it's easier to replace dumbbells on the rack without the long strap getting caught under a dumbbell and potentially pulling it off the rack when you walk away.Con - The downside of these hooks is that unlike flexible straps, I can't put the hooks into my pockets Because they are so well made, they are a bit heavy - the metal hooks are solidly constructed. If you work out a gym bag in the gym this is not an issue. The other small negative I noticed was hook slippage when using a short, straight bar for downward abdominal pull downs. Despite being coated with a heavy duty non-slip surface, the hooks had a tendency to slip to the end of the bar if I did not pull down with equal force on each hook. From now on, I'll use a zig-zag bar on ab pull downs to avoid any slippage.I was using 405 pounds on a bar doing shoulder shrugs today and completely let go of the bar with my hands and let the straps do all the work. No discomfort, no loss of control and I felt completely comfortable with the construction and the ergonomics. When lifting upwards, even with weights approaching 500 pounds on a standard 45 pounds gym bar there was NO slippage.Bottom line is that so far, based on the data cited above, I like these lifting hooks and feel confident with them as a better alternative to traditional wrist straps. .One side note. There was a small card in the order asking me to create a 1- 3 minute video review. In exchange for doing that video review, the manufacturer offered to refund the purchase price of the hooks or send me an extra pair for free. I may do a video review of these lifting hooks down the road but I'll decline the "freebie" offer. I think the moment any reviewer takes compensation for their opinion, that opinion is tainted. I staunchly refuse to be part of the "paid reviewer" process. I'm not Robert Parker or James Suckling, the shadily "compensated" wine critics - my opinion can't be bought. I'd be wary of any glowing video review for any product on Amazon because it may be a paid/planted review and not every reviewer may confess to being paid or having been offered to be paid.I will report back on these lifting hooks when I get more experience with them.
