The stainless steel pin allows free spinning of the bobbin and snaps into a groove in the shuttle. The smaller size is perfect for smaller shed floor and rigid heddle looms. Each shuttle is hand crafted by Eric Bartkus, a woodworker, mechanical engineer and weaver. I just received my shuttle and of course the very first thing I did was drop it on my kitchen floor! Happy to say it is completely undamaged and is beautiful. Size wise, it is a scant fraction of an inch higher and a smidgen shorter than my low profile Schact, but if they weren't side by side, you'd never notice. It's very smooth and polished on the bottom and I've no doubt about how well it will fly.
