Junk clear plastic will crack for no reason

Initially this worked fine, but developed fractures in the clear cover. I had to use silicone on the threads to get it to seal and after that it worked great. Then I noticed a drip (three weeks later). I unscrewed the cover and found three fractures in the clear cover. One fracture went across the threads and caused the leak. I do not recommend this filter. The screen and internal parts work fine, but the cover fails. I had ordered an extra, and it failed in the same manner after two days. I ended up ordering a different brand and the new one has worked fine so far (One month).
