  • Fully discrete signal path
  • Supports the famous “all buttons in” ratio setting

Classic Style The WA76 Discrete Compressor is a modern reproduction of the Classic '76 Revision D. The WA76 has a fully discrete signal path and uses the original Reichenbach Engineering's (now CineMag) transformer design. The classic '76 was a major breakthrough in limiter technology, and used on hundreds of hit records since its inception. Engineers have craved the ultra-fast attack time and trademark sound of the '76 for decades, and now it is finally affordable! Our goal was to make a compressor of this pedigree affordable for the first time, without compromising the quality and design parameters that make this type of compressor so desirable. All Buttons In The WA76 can reproduce the classic effect known as ‘All Buttons In’ mode, sometimes also referred to as ‘British Mode’ or the ‘Four Button Trick’. Originally an accident due to the mechanical nature of the interconnected latching switches, this mode is reproduced by pushing in all four ratio buttons simultaneously and getting them to latch. This can take a bit of practice. The resulting compression curve is aggressive and unmistakably unique, and can be heard on the drum tracks of many classic recordings. All-buttons-in compression is typically characterized by having a very aggressive compression ratio, attack and release curves that are more drastic plateaus opposed to gentler slopes, and more audible distortion or ‘overdrive’ on the signal. Initial transients are more likely to come through loudly, followed by heavy compression curve sometimes described as having a ‘sucking’ effect as the compressor releases. Because this mode is considered a design accident, faithfully maintained; it is normal for the meter function to ‘peg out’ and cease providing accurate metering. Premium Components We have faithfully reproduced the circuitry of the revision D, generally considered one of the best and most popular among the different versions made over the years. We’ve used all discrete, through-hole components, high quality CineMag input and output transformers, and a class A circuit that stays true to the legacy design.

The noise of distortion was just too much added to the signal

It's work just as good and any compressor out there. It's really a great product that I mainly use on my bass. It also can be utilized in many different studio/recording applications.

IN/OUT, podría saturar rápidamente. Digno de ser una opción viable para obtener un sonido muy, pero muy similar al original 1176 Rev. D

Received the item today 4/24/2022. I video recorded the unboxing, the issue is that I immediately noticed that the item was not packaged well at all. It had zero shipment protection. When i pulled the white wa76 box out, the bottom right had a label on it that did not seem like it was from amazon. The box had no tape or anything that made the box seem new. I opened it up and immediately noticed that the cable was not a power cable for this unit. I pulled the unit out and immediately noticed that the internal component had a shake to it. Probably fixable if amazon fixes this and then sells it as used. The problem is that this unit also had a clear household smell to it. This was very much a broken and used item that was returned and put on the brand new shelf at the amazon warehouse. Likely the last person who sent this back claimed that it was a normal return when it was not. They will need to do some internal examination to figure out if this was a fraudulent return from the last individual. I do notice a few people had some issues and I hope this was not the same unit. The customer support said they will send me a new one and wrap it better, but I am not sure if they will. Hopefully as I need it by Wednesday for a major interview with a prominent figure. All being said, my review is entirely negative atm due to this experience. The customer support asked if I attempted to utilize the equipment and plug it in after I told them 2-3 times prior that this item is clearly used, damaged, and has a cable that is not even the proper cable for the device (it is a power cable with an end that is circular for a separate device. I had no intention of writing this review until the customer support agent began implying that this was a brand new item (it was supposed to be) and kept insinuating that the issue was probably from shipping or on my end. They refused to listen. What prompted me to write this review was because the agent aggressively pushed me off the chat after I reiterated more than 4 times that this issue was broken upon arrival. I want a replacement as I need to do an interview. This guy immediately closed chat right after I said that was the main reason I am in this chat. Very rude. Their name was Mariel or something like that. I will update this review when the replacement arrives. I have the video and photos for evidence in case amazon thinks this issue is on my end.

This compressor was a significant upgrade to my old one. It evens out the levels, cuts down on peaking and is a lot quieter than my old one.

I purchased this along with Warm Audio's La2a and Pultec Eq. The build quality on all three units are excellent for their price range. Unfortunately the WA76 had a noisy input pot and I sent it in for an exchange. Those things happen but that's the 1- star ding in the review. The unit sounded excellent when I wasn't making adjustments at the input stage. You can get an enormous amount of usable compression out of this unit. From slightly colored to full-on aggressive grit. 1176's are still around for a reason, and Warm Audio has definely captured the attitude at a great price.Their products are right at home in my racks full of high end hardware.Edit- July 21st- received replacement unit and it also has a noise issue when adjusting input control when signal is being passed through. I'm now assuming it's a trait of the model which would be extremely unfortunate. I'll contact Warm Audio and we'll see how their customer service is. I've got a few other pieces that have stepped input gain and none of them exhibit this issue. If that's the design than I'll pass on adding another to my rack....8/1/16- update:Warm Audio's customer service is incredibly responsive. I sent an email at 4:40 am on a Saturday and had a reply by 9 am. I did have to send the unit in but I won't hesitate to pick up another WA76 knowing if there's any issues their customer service would be on top of it. Absolutely no issues with the LA2's and EQP's.

This thing is legit! For the price, I challenge anyone to find a superior product with as good of sonic quality and aesthetic appeal. Faithful reproduction of the 1176. Go ahead, take the Pepsi challenge with this bad boy and prepare to be dazzled.

This is a great compressor for many applications. Construction is solid. Sounds great for lead vocals, I've been using it as an insert for vocals during mixing as well. Not fast enough for the snare sound I want, if you're looking for a snare compressor maybe go for a Distressor. Overall a great buy.

I've not used an original 1176urie in some time. I have e UAD version of this to compare. Using a UAD LA610 and a Summit TLA-50 (awesome) as the front end when not looped thru DAW.It is a little bigger sounding than the plugin. The controls seem to feel tighter in response to the movement of sound. The pots and switches feel great, hopefully leading to lasting long. Blind comparisons were trickier but in music feel is everything. (Less and less with more technology)Great piece. Which I had more. Makes me want to mix out of the box again even more.
