This is the second time i bought this dam scale. First scale i didnt use til months after buying it..so when i did finally use it it was out of balance. Instructions says due to shipment it can get out of balance so twist knob at end n it will balance. Did that n scale was good. But every time i remove the weight off scale i notice i would “ALWAYS” have to “REBALANCE” the scale. So finally the scale became worthless. N i only used it maybe three to five times. It wouldnt balance anymore. The knob would twist to a stop. Then instructions say if this happens remove scale plate n either add or remove balancers. Still did no good cause i would always have to add or remove balancers everytime. So i called n they say it was out of return date. So i liked the scale so i ordered another one. Straight out the box it was not balanced. Turned knob n “ALREADY” it would stop n not turn. Another thing it did was when it would move up n down it would move up n just stop ( like as if it was getting stopped)! So i did as instrutions said again n removed one of the small balancers n was able to balance it. Weighed a package that weighed less then a lb n the scale was “ALREADY” out of balance again. So turn know n regardless which way i turned the knob either it was going to far or the knob would stop turning before i cud balance. So i put the little balancer back in, tried removing balancers etc n still cud not get the scale to balance. It would move down n then go up n suddenly stop. So with that said do not buy this scale. It will not fulfill your expectations. I/we should not have to buy something that we have to work on (STRAIGHT) out the box to get it to work as it is suppose to.

i bought this as it has a hook to do specific gravity measurements. i spend a lot of time collecting meteorites and i check for magnetism first, then specific gravity, (hence a need for this)i also use this for doing chemistry experiments, and it is accurate as the sight says providingwith my stereoscope microscope i have used this to weight biological samples in my studiesthe point zero range uses a bar slide and that is a pain, so i give it 4 stars, also it comes with weights which never match what is printed on them

It DOES work, it is a balance beam after all. You may, like I did, have to unscrew the flat plate (the plate you put the item to be weighed on) and add/remove weight (sub-gram sizes) to get the whole device to zero out properly. The little fine tuner knob on the left hand side of the plate should be set in the middle of its range when you do that. I also had to bend the little marker thing on the right side so that it didn't scrape against the scale marker too. Yes the tare thingy is a bit fuzzy when you re-zero, yes the whole scale is a bit cheapish in its construction and materials, but for the price if you want to weigh items to 1/10th grams you can do it with this scale when you get it set up, don't bang it around, and are used to it. If you truly want something high quality though you will have to pay MUCH more so for most folk I totally recommend this.Sorry for all the "thingy" things in my description, I don't have a drawing with proper nomenclature while I am writing this.

Excellent value! Measures to nearest 0.1 g [mg]. Both accurate and precise when checked against a digital electronic balance that measured to 0.0001 g. Liked the poise function of the 4th beam.

Accurate and consistent. Using to weigh minerals for ceramic glazes in personal studio. The scale is much lighter than the Ohaus brand at our community studio so I don't know how durable it would be in a setting were many people are using it. For me, it is perfect.

I've been using this for baking, mostly because it's fun to use. I use a little stainless steel bowl from a dollar store and tare it with the tare weight. I've converted a lot of my favorite recipes to percentage-based recipes and scale them down to a size a calorie-counting person would rather see steaming on their cooling rack. I set the amount of grams I want, and then pour until the balance beam moves. Why am I not using an electronic scale for baking? No batteries. No automatically switching off when I am taking too long getting my act together. The last weight is still recorded when I remove the bowl. And 3 grams of salt is 3 grams of salt even when its sitting on top of 500grams of flour--which is a huge act of faith when depending on electronic sensors. As far as build quality goes, this scale is not chintzy. And it's accurate (a dime alone on the dish weighs what its supposed to, and measures the same even when it's measured with another large mass on the dish.) And I like the color for use in a kitchen--not beige.
