Each module has three jumper setting for Full/Half/Quarter step functions. The common is GND, but the stepper motor chip has already the mode selection pins pulled to ground via an internal resistor! So I had to modify the top an bottom layer traces of the board so that the jumpers would be pulled to +5V instead of to ground! There are two cuts on the front side, see picture #2 & 3, they are close to the jumpers for the Z and X axis drivers. After that, it worked well. For the jumper settings, read the spec sheet of the chip (A4988). I jumpered only the right pins for half-step.

Plugged in a ac to dc adapter to power the board off the barrel connector. Instantly fried the nano. Not sure what happened but I believe the power for the steppers was pushed into the nano…

The nano board does not connect easily to the usb port and the IDE. Need to adjust usb settings due to emulator issues. Therefore, works 25% of the time!

This board saved me a lot of work animating a robot.markotime's comment was very helpful. Using this board did require flipping the pins.

Step and Direction pins on A4988 driver connections are reversed, so will not work with normal GRBL code. This can be remedied by either using an xacto knife and solder jumpers on the board, or changing the pin assignments in the GRBL main code, so that STEP and DIR pins on all 3 axes are interchanged. THis is known as a V4 board, and the problem is well known. The price, however, is ok given that the package includes 3, A4988 modules, an 8MHz Arduino NANO clone, and a USB cord.BE aware that this package only deals with the three normal motion axes, and would require a laser control module or motor control module (for an engraver/router) for full functionality. Delivery was quite quick, which was my main reason for ordering this package, with or without the pinout errors.

The included microcontroller doesn't have enough memory to hold GRBL so it's not compatible. Stepper pins are not labeled. There is no supporting documentation, the STEP/DIR pins are swapped requiring modification to the GRBL library files.
