I paint a lot. I just used this for a bathroom and it made quick and clean work of the project. It does get a little heavy but I have a bum shoulder right now and I’m still able to use it. I don’t know if I was working on a bigger room if I would get too tired using it or not. Also I’m 5’8” and painting the ceiling with it was a little difficult. My husband would have better luck painting the ceiling. The pole needs to be longer to comfortably paint a ceiling. I have trouble getting the roller piece off but not that big of deal. Easy clean up. Definitely a tool I’m glad I purchased!

Wasted not only the money to buy this, but also about 1/4 gallon of expensive paint trying to figure out why this wasn’t working like it should. I watched the company video and YouTube tutorial to no avail. The mess it made was a pain to clean, and I ended up having to drive to Lowe’s to buy a regular roller and extender pole and paint trays anyway. Once you suck up the paint from the can, the valve stays open, so when you pull the trigger, it just forces the paint right back out of the same hole.

This paint roller did make my project go a little faster, but I’m not convinced it’s worth the money. Here’s why:- the suction tube is sized for one gallon paint cans, so if you have a large area to cover and bought a 5-gallon bucket, you will have to transfer paint to a smaller container after the paint level decreases- it puts more paint onto the wall than you would probably use with a roller & tray, especially as you first get the hang of how much paint to dispense- paint dispenses in along strip of holes in the roller, so it can come out unevenly & may cause drips- it’s heavy so if painting is being done above shoulder level then more frequent breaks may be necessary- in order to draw paint into the handle you have to simultaneously push down and pull away from the roller, which can be an awkward & difficult movementThe positives:- some time savings- clean up is easy- inexpensive- if wrapped tightly over both the roller and intake port it can be set aside overnight and used without problems the next day. Some paint may leak out but when stored roller end down nothing dried out when I had to take an overnight break on my project

We spent a lot of time with drop cloths the first day. Totally unnecessary with this. Most of the drips from traditional painting come from pouring paint into the pan, loading the roller, etc. the reduced prep time makes this a no brainer. The clean up IS a pain. By the end of our house, there were dried chunks of paint inside the metal roller rod, which made the paint distribution uneven, but I would attribute that to the fact that we often wrapped the roller in a plastic bag and left it if we were not changing color, and as result it often went three days without being cleaned. If you were really religious about cleaning it, I’m sure that wouldn’t happen, but thoroughly cleaning this takes at least an hour. all that being said, I still give this a five star review, because realistically the cost is only about $10-$15 more than you would pay for traditional roller pieces, and if you’re only doing one house (i.e., you are not a professional painter who intends to use this every day for a year ) then I think you can justify this and throw it away when you’re done. After you get the hang of it, this is substantially faster than traditional dip, painting, much less messy. I would not recommend it for someone who is just doing one or two walls, but for someone who intends to do a large DIY project like painting their whole house, this is a no-brainer.

I've since completed 3 large rooms and 2 hallways, ceiling and walls with Sidekick and am impressed with the device. I can highly recommend it.Not only does it save time, it leaves a good finish, as clean as any paint roll job. I found that the time (and effort) saved not having to visit a paint tray all the time was invaluable. With appropriate care and maintenance, I see this unit up for many more paint jobs. From my experience so far, here are a couple of points to note:- Sidekick only released for the North American market, hence 110V AC power. I expected this, so being in Australia, I used a voltage adapter.- You can only use the special Wagner rollers (the one with the hole perforations). Rollers are expensive. As with all rollers, they are messy to clean and don't last. For me, I toss them after each use.- The paint feed switch controls the paint flow via a secondary pneumatic tube. If the tube get kinked or squeezed, remote control will not be detected. Not good if you are caught with paint feed on; though this was a rare problem. (I see an opportunity for a hack to improve this :))- I find painting a messy undertaking, and this device is no different, so to ensure on-going reliable operation, clean all the parts thoroughly, and lubricate as noted in the manual.

While this roller does have some imperfections, it's still 5 stars to me when compared to the alternative. I splurged on this power roller because we have SO MUCH to paint. It has and will continue to save us so much time and our backs. It's easy to set up & easy to use. I love that you just connect it to your can, saving all the pouring and drippage and gooey dried lids. It was surprisingly simple to regulate the amount of paint coming through the roller. These types of items are hit or miss so 5 stars from me because it does what I wanted and the few frustrating things don't compare to the time savings and physical labor. What's imperfect:-While you don't have to constantly reload your loader and climb up & down the ladder to do so, the roller is a bit heavy because of the tube full of paint you're also holding. No fault of the product, just important to know.-The trigger that starts & stops the paint flow is easy to use...until you get a couple of hours in and the splatter and general paint on your hands causes it to stick. We should have stopped to clean it when it started, but tried to power through and eventually couldn't make it stop and spilled paint all over the floor trying to just shut off the power entirely. Manageable, but also good to know in advance.-Cleanup is a chore. But no worse than you would expect. I'm known to often throw out rollers rather than wash them, but that's not an option here. You have to use the provided roller or replace it with the same. I bought a spare and it wasn't too expensive. To clean the rest of the machine you will need a 5 gallon bucket and a lot of water. You'll almost have to take this outside unless you have a tub you don't care about. Otherwise, it's just a matter of running the machine for a steady half hour then just wiping it all down. It's worth it if you use it for a big project, but I wouldn't drag it out for a small room or a single wall. There's no quick-change of colors.Overall, no regrets on the purchase. My time & back are worth more than the pricetag and the cleanup.
