I had problems with my original door bell shorting out when heavy rain would work it's way into the wiring and shorting it out. It would cause "false alarms".This device (Viking W200A) has worked well since I had it installed last fall (I had planned on installing it myself but it was a little more complex than I was willing to try by myself - and I'm fairly handy). It rings my land-line phones with a distinct ring - and I can simply answer a phone to speak with the person at the door. So far, it has not had problems with rain or snow shorting it out.
