Product Description

Grooved rod for honing knives. Black composite handle. Thoughtfully crafted and meticulously designed in Germany, manufactured in China. Family owned for seven generations, WÜSTHOF was founded in Solingen, Germany over 200 years ago. ;Many chefs prefer sharpening steel to a slotted sharpener or whetstone for keeping their knife collection in top cutting shape. This particular Wüsthof steel features a nine-inch rod, grooved for ease of use, which is made of magnetic steel that attracts metal fibers during the sharpening process (thus preventing them from flying all over the kitchen workspace). The black composite handle provides a good grip and features a reasonable bolster to help prevent the knife blade from hitting the knuckles. While this model does not have a hanging loop, the steel should fit handily into a provided slot in most wooden storage blocks. The sharpening steel is made in Solingen, Germany, the home of Wüsthof cutlery since 1814, and is covered by a lifetime warranty. --Ann Bieri.

Durable and very effective. Simple to use, no frills or complications.A honing steel is an absolute necessity especially if you own expensive knives because it is the best way to keep them in top form without damaging or degrading the knife. It’s a sin to not keep one of these in the kitchen.

I researched this honing rod and found that it is highly rated and recommended for carbon steel knives. I've been a knife sharpener for my father since I was 9 years old. He used fillet blades in his work. I know a good honing rod when I use it. I've my own knives and this sharpened them amazingly well. I've carbon and stainless alloy steel knives, this got them extremely sharp and is a superior rod. Highly recommended for kitchen to outdoor knives and carbon to stainless steel alloy knives. Awesome product!!

Steeling is important for maintaining the cutting edge of a knife. This one carries the Wüsthof brand name, but is priced considerably lower than some of their other steels. The steel portion measures approximately 9", and the handle about 4-3/4".The plastic handle is hard to the touch, but 'soft' in that it is easily cut, and will quickly melt if placed on a hot stove or surface. I do not know if it is dishwasher safe. The steel portion (the 'business end') worked well on a few different brands of knives I have, and confirmed to me that my old steel might be dull / worn out (?).The package sleeve has some German language on it, but is clearly marked 'Wüsthof USA' and 'Made in China'.Seems to be a good value for the price, and does the job intended.
