Just received my vintage classic reel.I was always interested in trying an old classic click and pawl reel. The click sound is very loud and should be awesome landing a fish. The reel looks solid and well built. The minimum drag on this reel will need different handling then a more modern reel and may need adjusting but it should give you an idea of how old reels opperated. No drag adjustments might need palm drag from your part. This reel is simple and less parts to replaceLots of room for backing and fly fishing line.Looking forward to giving this reel a try.

On appearance I would be giving this reel 6 stars (if possible) with it's attractive gold trim it really does look the part. but is that important for catching fish - of course not.Positives:This reel is really lightweight.Wide throat for thicker fly lines.Seems very strong and durable.Negatives:High price. No instructions to see where parts go or to order a replacement part.Poor sealing around the drag system means it is unsuitable for saltwater use.Poor quality case.Generally the build quality looks poor with marks on screws.Overall the reel functions pretty well but the lack of sealing and the high purchase price prevents me giving it 5 stars and if I could would actually score it 3.5.

🎣 The fly reel has an interchangeable handle for both left- and right-handed operation, achieved by a click drag system that works in both directions, preventing the reel from locking. The throat of the reel is fairly open and wide, which allows it to carry a substantial amount of line, though it requires a significant leader to compensate. The handle has a small counterbalance, providing added control when managing the drag while a fish is on the line. The spool design includes a large arc, which increases line capacity and suits different fishing situations. Its smooth, stable rotation and crisp sound are noticeable during use, although the drag system is limited to a click-only mechanism, which is loud and lacks adjustable pressure as a result.🐟 On the plus side, the reel has an attractive gold styling, though it feels a bit ostentatious for fly fishing, where reflections and glints can be counterproductive when targeting cautious fish. Other colours are available. The reel is lightweight but feels strong and durable, with a throat design that makes it easy to handle larger lines and aids fly casting. While the overall look and feel elevate its presentation, the lack of detail about the sealing on the drag system leaves uncertainty about its suitability for saltwater use. In my opinion, this reel is better suited for inshore or freshwater fishing, as I wouldn’t trust it for the harsher conditions of sea fishing without confirmation of sealing.🎣 There are a few issues that hold this reel back, particularly considering its price point, which places it at the premium end of budget reels. Some screws are burred, suggesting assembly with standard tools or a rushed manufacturing process, which is disappointing compared to cheaper reels I own that have been put together with more care. The included pouch is of very low quality and feels like an afterthought rather than a protective accessory. Additionally, there are no instructions provided, which, while not essential, are often helpful for understanding maintenance and cleaning, particularly for the drag system.🐟 Overall, the reel’s aesthetics and decent performance carry it to a four-star rating for me. However, for those on a tighter budget, the showy appearance may not justify the cost, especially given the assembly flaws and lack of documentation. Improvements in build quality, attention to detail, and a more practical design would elevate its value considerably. For now, it feels overpriced and better suited for anglers prioritising looks over function. ✔️
