Good kit with good instructions - brush housing contacts are different to original and cracked easily when tried to install. Original brush housing had to be destroyed to be removed so ended up with a non-working alternator. Need better quality brush housing.

The CS130D alternator in my 2001 Chevy S10 beater truck had a bad bearing that was making noise. This was a cheap way to make it better, but If it was my daily driver, I would have it rebuilt or buy a new re manufactured one. It wasn't an easy fix, and there were lots of ways to screw up. Do not attempt unless you have a well equipped workshop. Instructions were surprisingly good, and there are also good tips on youtube.

When I received my shipment the plastic brush holder was broken. The directions regarding removal of the front bearing leave a lot to be desired. It works better to carefully chisel back the overlap and drill holes between the bearings until the metal piece falls out. Then the bearing drives out easily. When I followed the company's directions the stator frame bounced out of my vise and one stator winding was bent and the front bearing had not budged. It is also best to remove the old brushes from the old holder before attempting to drive the rotor and slip rings out. That way you can save the old brush holder for reuse.

i installed these parts into my alternator and i noticed that they weren't quite once it everything was put together. i even machined the rotor inside the alternator so it was smooth so i wouldn't have any problems. it made a loud roaring sound once the alternator was put back into the car. it didn't last a month and i was stuck at a gas station with no help from anyone. its ok if you like playing Russian roulette not knowing when your alternator is gonna die again. just buy a new alternator.

This worked perfectly. instructions are very clear (i thought) and the rebuild/repair went very easily. i did not replace the bearings in my unit, as it was previously rebuilt, and the rectifier pack is what failed.Pros: cheap and very easy to doCons:... ? bearings are not super easy to installthe Brush holder design on this is very simple, but so easy a caveman could do it!!!

The GMA-04 kit worked great for my alternator. The rear bearing is usually the one that goes bad and not the front. My alternator was working properly but the bearing was making noise. From experience, I know that leaving it this way, the bearing will eventually fail completely and could cause more damage to the alternator. At some point, the shaft could stop spinning or begin to spin crooked causing the serpentine belt to be thrown off while driving. This could cause damage to the belt, and also leave you stranded! You will need a soldering iron to disassemble and also solder to reassemble your alternator. Also a puller is helpful for seperating the housing (you can rent one from your local Autozone or Advance store).Customer service for the product is, in my opinion A+, if you happen to need it. The toll free number is on the package.A voltage regulator is not included in this kit. The regulator does not often go bad. There is, however, a new bridge rectifier with this kit.I highly recommend this kit (I got it for around $30 from Amazon) and it saved me about $70 - $80 compared to buying a remanufactered alternator from my local parts store. Even at it's regular price, you can save $40 - $50.Contents include the following:1 - 6202 rear bearing1 - 6303 front bearing1 - diode bridge rectifier with heat sink compound1 - brush holder with brushesIt takes a little time and patience, but if you're into fixing your own stuff, you will appreciate this kit.Jeff
