Was looking for a good EDC folder that would do what I needed in Bushcraft as well. This fits that need nicely. Well made and solid.

As an old guy I routinely carry a SAK when I go outside. For me they offer extensions to the tooth and nail vs carrying a tool bag/chest with proper sized tools. I do enjoy the many Vids of creative people building a shelter and using them in survival situations.... They give me many ideas that frankly there is no way in hell I wouldn't use a proper tool for but in a pinch that one time in band camp I shoved the SAK into the Philips head screw and tightened it down so the trip went on....Soooo that leads to just what SAK to carry.... and that I have two, either the compact two layer with + scales .OR. if I'm going to wear trousers with a belt (not elastic waist shorts) A multi layer heavy with additional get outa a jamb tools. My two favorites, the four layer Huntsman and the five layer Ranger...For the added weight and width, the excellent file on the Ranger makes it well worth the carry penalty. As to its handling, its still comfortable to grip unlike the champ which gets overly wide to utilize. For my hands the 4 and 5 layer are the sweet spot, even better than the 2 layer Compact.Be sure to look into the eyeglass screwdriver that nests in the corkscrew as well as firestarter options and the Pinhole behind the corkscrew. I like to add the + scales for the pen, a real PITA to have on your person for its infrequent use these days.

While I haven't really tested it out yet, the Ranger is a model I've always wanted. The saw blade will especially come in handy for small shrubs and stalky weeds that try to infest the perimeter of my house. As a collector, I've no doubt the Victorinox saw can handle it easily. This knife has a lot of tools and is more compact than I thought it was going to be for a 5 layer pocket knife. My only small gripes are the 2 abrasions on the front scale, one on the back scale, and a very small bump on the main blade (top of it thankfully) I didn't notice until I cleaned the entire knife. Oddly enough, it was dirty with what looked like cardboard fibers. I think this knife has been out of the box, and I don't think it was handled roughly during shipping because the box was in good shape (aside from the lid closed, but looking opened), and a CD I'd ordered from you arrived in the same package in perfect shape. I could be wrong, but I found those cardboard fiber things all over it strange as there was nothing in in the package made of the stuff.Anyway, after some cleaning, I suppose I can overlook those minor things. I don't plan on being gentle with this knife anyway, it's going to go through some yard work and become one of my EDCs, so some scuffing is inevitable. But when you order something advertised as new, you kind of want it to arrive in that shape. Still a 5/5, the tools were well oiled, and opened/closed flawlessly like a Victorinox would.

This is the best multipurpose knife for outdoor use while camping, hiking, fishing, outdoor photography, or hunting. First of all when you set it down while working, the red handles are quick to spot and retrieve. Making it fantastic to work with. It replaces a box full of tools all in one light weight package. Holds well in extreme cold, unlike aluminum handles.

One of the main tools I like with the Victorinox Swiss Army Ranger Pocket Knife is that it has a large file. I have found many uses for it. Filing wood as well as metal, 90 degree spine for using with ferro rods, and using it to cut a groove in a screw with a stripped Phillips head to create a flat area to use with a flat screwdriver. As with any Victorinox knife, it is well made and very useful in day to day use; I have found multiple uses for all the tools. I actually used the can opener to open a can!

Some tools I don't use. For example, that "package hook" IDK what to use it for. I guess I can pull a guy line tight with it. The chisel is a good idea. I'm thinking a sharp (and, dude, it IS sharp) blade on the end will be useful at some point. Not many SAK's have this tool.IMO, if a knife has scissors and can opener, it had better be good. These scissors are NOT cheap. They are sharp and do a good job. The saw is very aggressive, I cut down a white pine branch the diameter of the saw easily. Whatever you do, saw carefully and not let the saw bind and bend out of shape. . Saw straight on. Once that saw is bent in a curve, it will never work well again.Hint: open the corkscrew and place a shirt pin in the tiny hole in the scale. The pin would be useful for pulling out splinters, etc. Also buy a glasses screwdriver accessory that screws into the end of the corkscrew. Then you have another useful tool! The can opener works okay. Hint make you can punch and go forward, not back. The wire stripper is just a notch in the bottle opener/screwdriver tool. Use it in conjunction with the blade Search Youtube for more details. It does work! The file does more than file fingernails; It files real steel. The edge is a hacksaw, too.TBH, IDK what the belt punch awl is good for.Between the chisel and package hook, there is a small screwdriver and whatever else it is. It's an odd looking tool, to be sure. Then, we have the SAK standard toothpick and tweezers. Dude, wash and/or replace the toothpick before you put it back after use (EWWW). The tweezers are what they are. They're cheap, but they are there if you really need tweezers.

This knife was a gift to replace a Swiss Army knife purchased thirty years ago. Unfortunately, the older one was lost on a mountain during the summer- it had still been as good as the day purchased. Swiss Army is a terrific brand with a great deal of history. They are aware of their product and maintain very high quality in their knives.

This is the best Vitorinox for my need. I have it for a couple of years and I use it everyday, so useful, both inside the house and outside. I wear it on my belt using a Victorinox pouch which I also highly recommend. With a pouch, you remember you got it when you need it, as it doesn’t weight down your pocket. It is missing the plier but adding the plier would make it a lot bulkier and heavier. This ranger optimises the space as there are tools filling up all the back side. I got several other Victorinox, smaller and larger but for me this is the best toolset versus size. It saves so much time as I don’t have to rush to my toolbox so often especially when up a ladder or when holding something, i can just grab it with my other hand and get the job done immediately. There are cheaper immitation but the tools are useless on them, get a Victorinox you won’t regret it.
