Item works as any snap trap would, the large yellow plate is unnecessary, one out of 5 broke when it went off because of cold weather making the plastic brittle. Traps are powerful and work, but a tiny metal trigger to press cheese, peanut butter, or other bait on, like other models use, would make this a 5/5 product.

I bought the 9 pack and baited all of them then set the traps at the site of the exit/entrance location outdoors. I put on gloves before I even handle the traps so my scent is not on them at all. All traps were set on ‘sensitive’. I heard two traps snap within a few hours but each time - NO RAT. I gloved up, baited, placed then re-set those 2 traps. I went to work -12 hour shift - came home to see 3 sprung traps, again NO RATS.I feed birds and hence feed rats as well and found I had been feeding a virtual colony this last spring. I ended up trapping over 40 (also Victor) and I believe the traps became less effective and some were even rusty but, they still work every time I bait them. This new set of 9 hasn’t trapped ONE. I use feta cheese for bait as 9 out of 10 rats prefer it over peanut butter. Ha!I’m going to give them another try today and hope for the best. Rats are very smart, especially the big ones. There are a few I see and recognize from early spring. If I can’t nab them soon I’ll have to just make them pets.

These traps work! I had been dealing with a very smart rat, for 3 weeks. I set up glue traps, electric rat trap, and nothing for weeks! I was getting frustrated and scared it would attract more rata to the house. We turned the house upside down, looking for holes, any access point and night after night, we would check the traps and nothing! It even started moving the glue traps. It would pick up the small traps and try to take them with it.I bought these and they came over night. LET ME TELL YOU, I SET UP MOTION SENSOR CAMERAS AND THE TRAPS AND WENT TO BED. LITERALLY 20 MINUTES LATER WE HEARD A SNAP.!!! WE GOT IT! These are highly effective. I'm hoping there are no more rats. But I'm going to keep mine up and baited. Just in case.NOTE, make sure you're wearing gloves when baiting these! Rats smell your scent, and won't go for the bait if you leave your scent. We used fudge. We placed the bait on the bottom of the yellow plate and pressed it in so the rat had to try and get it from the bottom. It worked perfect. We bought 9 traps, we just tossed the trap along with rat still on it. Buy these, they work!

Everything about these was great. Easy to bait, easy to set, and they kill even big rats. Got my first one within 2 hours of these being delivered. My electronic traps had been in the same area for two days and didn't get anything. One thing though: remember to wear gloves when baiting and setting to keep your smell on the trap to a minimum.

In my Texas attic, I've tried three types of traps and the only traps that have killed any roof rats are these. I purchased more expensive plastic traps and have had no hits, but I've killed four so far with these. Cleanup has been quick and easy so far, the kills are near instant.Advice, put the traps on solid ground, rats are less likely to trip if you put them on something not solid (i.e. insulation). Look for natural bridges or walkways in your attic, or line them along walls. Peanut butter and a nut or two on top will do the job. The traps can be thrown away but they are high quality and can be reused.

This is a very powerful trap with enough force to break your finger if you’re misfortunate enough to have it snap on you. You must be very careful when you’re setting these traps. You want to place these traps where children and animals such as rabbits, squirrels, birds and chipmunks don’t get in them. They are listed as humane. I don’t know what‘s humane about getting your skull crushed. Once this trap snaps on the rat’s head or neck they’ll never know what hit them. Its lights out for the rat. If they are misfortunate enough to get their leg caught in the trap they will lay there and suffer or chew their leg off in order to get free. Although I have no love for rats I don’t want them to suffer in pain for hours. I want to kill them as quickly as possible. Rats carry diseases and are responsible for numerous house fires by chewing electric wires inside the walls. In order for these traps to work they must be baited with something that will attract the rats. Peanut butter is a good choice or a hunk of cheese works nicely. These traps are reusable and should last for years. Just be careful because they can hurt you.

I've been using the Victor M205-9 Easy Set Snap Rat Traps for a while now, and they remain my go-to choice for pest control. I prefer these classic-style wooden traps over modern alternatives because of their simplicity and effectiveness. The traps are well-made with sustainably sourced FSC-certified wood, which is a nice touch for eco-conscious buyers. The plastic pedal design makes setting the trap quick and easy, even for someone with minimal experience. The mechanism is sensitive and reliable, ensuring a clean and humane catch.I appreciate that these traps are reusable and cost-effective. They are also easy to clean and reset, which adds to their long-term value. While the "old-school" design might seem dated to some, it’s a proven and practical solution that I trust to get the job done.Highly recommend for anyone looking for a no-fuss, dependable way to handle rodent problems. These traps may be simple, but they work like a charm!

Absolutely garbage trap. The plastic does not support the metal bar. Impossible to set up without breaking your fingers…avoid

As said in other reviews get the M205 not the M205R. Even the M205 spring tends to bend after 7 or 8 goes so get the 12 pack. You'll see the paths the rodents make. I've found putting 2 traps together side-by-side with springs in opposing orientations across the run works. Put loads down and you'll get them. No bait required. I've taken over 40 out in the past week alone. Very effective traps.
