The VIAIR 400P Portable Compressor offers inflation of up to 35-inch tires at a rapid rate, and operation at up to 150 PSI for up to 15 continuous minutes at a time, providing that there are 30 minutes provided afterwards for the unit to cool sufficiently. The unit is powered by an easy to establish temporary connection to a 12-volt battery power source via included alligator clamps. The 400P comes with an open-ended tire inflation hose with included 100 PSI air pressure gauge that offers the following functions: air up, air up intermittently, air down, air down intermittently and check tire pressure. To check tire pressure, simply turn off the portable compressor to halt inflation and check the pressure on the air pressure gauge. Additional parts provided include an inline fuse holder, a 8' power cable, a heavy duty sand tray with vibration isolators and deluxe carry bag.

Compressor duty cycle refers to amount of time a compressor can be operated in a given time period, at 100 PSI and at a standard ambient temperature of 72°F. Duty Cycle is commonly expressed in percentile as: compressor on time (compressor on time + off time) %. As an example, a compressor that is rated for 25% duty cycle means that compressor can be operated at: 100 PSI @ 72°F for 10 minutes on and 30 minutes off. 10 min. on / (10 min. on + 30 Min. off) = 10 min. / 40 Min = 25% duty cycle.

When I go off road I always Air Down tires. I visit 4x4 beach NC frequently. Also Hatters National Park ORV beaches. I own a junk removal company and the number of times we’ve blown or needed to patch a tire is astounding. I’d have you guess but you would guess low. So when I got this to keep in our truck I knew it would be put to good use! It inflates faster than any of the other ones I’ve tried, doesn’t over heart, was reliable and easy to store. Very happy with this purchase! It was also a great price!!!

The pump itself is great and you can tell it s a quality product but the hose is really not useful.First the gauge is next to the tire you inflate so you need to go constantly between the pump and the tire if you want to adjust the pressure with the pump. The best is to inflate with a higher pressure and then deflate to get the desired pressure.Then the connector to the valve tire is with a 90 degree angle which makes it really hard to connect as it needs to be flush with the tire rim. I ended up making a new hose with a straight connector. It s more compact and a lot easier to connect.I also added quick disconnect at the pump with a digital gauge equipped with a deflation button so that I can adjust the tire pressure at the pump. I got everything from harbor freight for about $20 and it makes the system prefect. I don't know why they don't do something like this.Be also aware that this model doesn't automatically stop of you have an overpressure so make sure to only buy open flow fittings or valves. The 400 automatic has a pressure switch that stops the pump, so if you want to use an air pressure gun get the 400 automatic, not this one.

The product arrived well packaged and easy instructions. The carry case is extremely well made with separate pockets for the compressor and bits. Connecting to the battery is easy and the hose is more than long enough for my 20 ft camper. It works well and is accurate. One odd thing which could be a safer feature or it assumes that we have long arms is the positioning of the on/off switch. When the compressor is connected to the battery and the hose to the back tyre the pressure gauge is near the tyre and the on off switch on the compressor??? I switched it on briefly walked to the back cane back etc. Now it could be that there is an on off lever or attachment to regulate pressure near the gauge but I haven’t got one. Maybe a safety feature???? I still like it though. Solidly made. Easily portable.

After paying $2 to inflate 4 tires at a gas station decided to buy my own inflator. After weighing cost/benefit options chose the Viair 400P. Initially balked at the price but I hate crappy products. Any worry about my choice disappeared with a thorough inspection. Buying online can be a crapshoot but this unit is quality built. Bag is medium grade and could use a third small compartment for filters and extras but a minor issue, also the instructions are in tiny print and hard to read for us old geezers. Showed the 400P to my mechanic and he was very impressed. His first comment was wow even the hose is high quality! Never thought I'd be excited to inflate tires but using a quality tool like this is a pleasure. This pump is fast, easy to use and has a nice sound to it. The pressure gauge as others have noted did not seem accurate. An issue for cars with short valve stems is the horizontal inflator chuck won't fit unless you have enough clearance above wheel cover surface. I bought a 6" flexible valve extension which solves the problem.Read some reviews complain of the 8' power cord as too short. Easy hack is use your jumper cables as extensions. A decent 16' 4 gauge cable will triple your power reach. Saves moving back and forth to turn pump on/off when filling. Also, buy a spare 40 amp fuse JIC.

The delivery to my address in Spain was super fast, just like the Viair compressor. Well done seller!The Viair compressor is very impressive. I’ve owned a twin head compressor and single head compressor (permanently mounted under bonnet) and in my opinion the Viair compressor performs better.The fact that the amp draw is a little less than its competitors is outstanding, no more struggling alternators, just fast inflation times, especially at night when all the spotlights are on and a 60 litre Engel fridge in the trunk. You don’t even have enough time for a beer, haha!The kit is complete and has a very useful carry bag that it comes with. It has enough space to carry other things, in my case, I carry a 12v battery jump pack which fits inside with ease.This compressor is the real deal without using a mains powered compressor

The Viair 400P is a fabulous addition to my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. It make airing back up after a drive on the beach an absolute pleasure instead of a chore. The kit is complete, and makes the whole setup easy to transport and store. The compressor, and all of its accessories in the kit are complete and of the highest quality. The airing up process is quick, and problem free. With a bit of experience, the process for airing up four tires should take less than 15-20 minutes for all four tires ! Naturally, you must be careful as the compressor heats up during tire inflation, but with a little common sense, the entire operation is completely safe. If you enjoy driving off road or if you just need emergency air for tires, lifters or any number of inflatable toys or sports equipment, you need a Viair portable compressor. Yes, I would recommend this to a friend !
