The tap we received was not as pictured. I prefer the style shown in the listing.

They always have a great tap. You pay a little more for these but the life is significantly better. Plus these are coated, so finish is also better.

I had 60 holes to tap in 1/4" thick 304L stainless, drilled to 13/64. Not knowing how the different taps available would perform, I tried a variety, including this one at the mid point of the cost scale at $12.02 . I worked very slowly using plenty of thread cutting oil and found that I could cut a good thread in 15-20 minutes, taking only a small amount (5-10 degrees of turn) each time before reversing to cut the swarf. I found of all the taps I tried, this one centered the thread on the hole much more easily than the others, and after only getting 3.5 holes out of a tap at half the price followed by 4.5 holes out of a similar priced tap before they all snapped, I was astonished to find that this tap just kept on going. It completed cutting 24 holes before I noticed that the leading edges of the cutting teeth were breaking away and it was more difficult to turn in the hole, so I then stopped and waited for my final tap to arrive which cost almost double the price. That one easily completed all my remaining 20 holes, taking only 5 minutes per hole, but was noticeably harder to center than this tap. In summary, this tap provides a good option for cutting in the region of 20 holes if you have plenty of time available, but beyond that I would suggest getting something more capable.

I have never had a tap that cut like these. Very impressed.
