Mixed feelings about this thing. I'm definitely getting faster down and up speeds on WiFi than I was with the previous FIOS router. With that one, I was getting in the range of 10-15mbps, despite paying for 100. Even when I took my laptop to the utility room and stood within 3 ft of the router, I didn't crack 30. Sometimes, I'd get under 10. At my one wired Ethernet connection, I got full speed. So the issue is WiFi performance in my house.Based on the marketing pitch that the FIOS Gateway is Verizon's fastest, most powerful router, I bought one. Glad that I got it from an Amazon merchant for $30 or so less than Verizon sells it for.Initial setup in the same location as the previous router produced little or no improvement in speed -- in either 2.4 or 5 GHz. In particular, speed and signal strength in the family room, where we use WiFi the most for streaming Netflix and Amazon Prime video from phones or laptops to the TV, was still pretty bad.I did not get improvement in performance until I relocated the router from the utility room (in the basement) to a basement office that is directly below our kitchen and a shorter distance to the family room sofa. I was able to do this because there's a coax connection in that office that can bring the internet signal from outside to the router and an Ethernet connection that can make the router accessible to the one computer that connects by wire. Now I'm getting 70 mbps and more download and 100 or more upload on the 5 GHz network. On 2.4, I'm getting 50-60 down and 80 or so up. Not the full 100/100 I'm paying for, but an improvement over what I was getting before. So in the end, I'm happy with the performance, but the boost seems to be more from relocating the router than from the router itself.Setup and configuration was very easy. Part of the setup procedure walks you through changing the network name and password so you no longer have to live with those long strings of meaningless letters.2022 addition (not part of original 3 "helpful" votes): This is a grey market product that is not supposed to be available for sale by any third parties. Do not buy supposed Verizon FIOS routers from anyone but Verizon. The issue I ran into with this is that in 2020 or 21 when we decided to cut the cord and go to all streaming for TV, I wanted to up the speed on my FIOS account to 300 mbps which this gateway was capable of. Verizon would only do it by charging me $15 monthly rental on this router or selling me the newest router for $300. Why? Because the information they can read on their end showed the router was theirs and never sold to me. I can't explain why they let me get away with not paying rent on this router since 2017. I ended up buying their new $300 gateway so I can max out on speed in the future should I choose to.Punchline: They didn't want the old router back! They would charge me $15/month if I continued to use it. But if I don't use it, they just wanted me to get rid of it. Our town recycles electronics, so it's gone.

This is the Wi-Fi router Verizon told me to buy on Amazon instead of buying it or renting it from them. I ordered it from Amazon and two days had it at my new apartment. Two days after that Verizon came and set up my internet, tv and phone service. It was up and running within a couple hours. The only complaint I have is the range is not great. I live in a tiny two room apartment and the connection in the room that doesn't have the router in it is spotty at best. I have called Verizon twice to deal with this and they say other than installing an extender/amplifier there is nothing that can be done.

SET-UP: I luckily didn’t have much difficulty connecting to the network. I didn’t have to “release” the old router from the network as described by others. I disconnected the old router and 30 minutes later connected the new router and ~ 10-20 minutes later the original solid red signal changed to solid white. The next steps are important especially if you have many devices attached. You should connect and power up all devices in the sequence they are connected and they will work just fine. If a switch doesn’t work, turn everything off from switch (away from the modem-router) onward and then power them on serially. If you can’t get it to work, power everything off and then turn the modem-router on and wait till it is connected to the internet (solid white light) and then turn each device on one by one waiting for each device to work correctly before powering on the next device. I have at least 16 devices connected not counting the telephones attached to VOIP devices.ETHERNET connection speed: I only have 25Mbps up & down but with the old router (Actiontec M1424WR) I would have to reboot my routers frequently as it might slow down to 5Mbps/5Mbps even at 4am when no one is using the internet. With the new router (Quantum Gateway G1100) I haven’t had to do this yet. I appear to be getting 25Mbps up & down continuously although it has only been 3 days on the new router. (During one test it went up to 60 Mbps up which was likely an aberration (error?) as it didn’t happen again. In conclusion, the old router was not set up correctly, OR was malfunctioning OR the new router is much better. These readings are even with a 100 foot category 6 Ethernet cable which runs to the other side of the house and is plugged into an Ooma telo (VOIP telephone service), then connected to a D-Link DIR655 router and then a 25 foot category 6 Ethernet cable, a gigabyte switch and then into my Dell M6600. I am impressed. Verizon states there is a dual core processor for faster wireless & wired performance.Wi-Fi connection: I am not impressed with the WiFi capability. I have a D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit router bought in 2007, which was on one end of the house but wouldn’t even reach the middle of the house (2500sqft; house is about 100 feet long). I thought the AC Wi-Fi would do better but is about the same as the Dlink router. This is true on both on 2.4 or 5 GHz bands. I will set up this router in the center of the house and send Ethernet wires to other areas and connect N routers in the corners to facilitate good coverage. I believe the reason for poor coverage may be thick walls as this house was built ~ 1953. I will read articles on tweaking the router and see if I can improve the range. I suppose it might be possible to transmit the Wi-Fi signal for 325 feet as claimed on Verizon’s website in an open space but in a house it might be tough. If after adjusting the router’s settings,my results improve, I will give follow-up.Would I buy it again? Yes. Even the wired readings appear to be consistently good and I will likely upgrade my plan to 100 Mbps up & down. The router will pay for itself in 12 months if bought from amazon. Verizon has a discount presently and can be bought for 150 + $10 shipping + tax making it ~ $44 more than Amazon. Verizon will guarantee it for 2 years, Amazon not sure?2016-10-02: I have been using it for about 6 weeks with the VerizonFiOS 100Mbps up & down upgrade and there have been no problems at all. I recommend it highly.2022-06-10: update: I have been using the modem-router for several years now and have had no problems. I upgraded to 100Mbps up/down and then to 1000Mbps up/down ~ 3 years ago. I was using an old gigabyte router (bought in 2007, D-Link DIR655) but wasn't getting gigabyte speeds until I recently learned how to correctly configure the 2 routers on my home network. I've been very happy with the Verizon router and would still recommend it for someone on a budget who doesn't want to buy the newest router which has better WiFi coverage.
