1975 VW Bus. Replaced a VDO demo sensor oil plug that Ive had for almost 20 years. Put this one in after an oil change to get a new plug and crush washer. It does not register the oil temp, and its created a good oil drip. Ive torqued it down with a torque wrench and I have time sert in so I can torque it more than usual. Not sure what to think about if it will be the same buying a VDO elsewhere. This one was a little cheaper and obviously convenient to purchase, but now that I'll be finding an alternative and draining the oil again, I'm not so sure it was worth the risk.

Seems to have failed in short order. Gauge is a standard VDO 150C oil temperature gauge, sender is threaded into the oil cooler thermostat plug; after engine is warmed up the internal contacts inside the sending unit seem to be dodgy - needle begins bouncing and reading erratically. Gauge and wiring verified, sender grounding is good (no sealing compound). Replaced sender with 30 year old unit and all fixed. New sender turned out to be made in Mexico and not Germany

It works! I have not been able to check for how accurate it is but, once I do learn I will update this review

Used this on a MINI R53 with the optional oil temp gauge. This sender is mounted in place of the oil sump drain bolt. Since I use a vacuum oil pump, this sender won't be disturbed potentially damaging it from the routine oil changes. The sender itself is working as expected and is sending the temp to the gauge.

I bought 2 of these which where out of VDO's Spec. They would not work with the VDO oil temp meter. I also bought 4 more from 3 differentVW Beetle VDO vendors and all read out of spec with a standard ohm meter. Out of spec condition verified by dealer.Spec reads 22ohms at 250 degrees and 700 ohms at Cold ( 120 or Less )All 6 read 200 ohms at 250 degrees and 1350 ohmsSpecs were verified by VDO. VDO Technical people do not understand anything electrical. Ask to speak to an engineer and they blew me off. This causes the meter to read cold when the engines is too hot.All three vendors tell me VDO does not want like dealers to provide support but yet they will blow you off.

Great sending unit. I have used one for years on my Golf GTI until the spade terminal broke off. This is a replacement and I expect many more years of service from it.
