The color for the soft water does appear green, but when I tested water at a source I know to be hard water the test strip started out kind of brownish but then after a few minutes it turned more toward the green color. The color chart on the tube shows six colors - from soft to hard. My experience has been that I really only get two colors; green - the color of grass - for soft and an olive brownish green for hard. Maybe the point is to be sure to read the test strip right away.Also, previous test strips I have used have been individually wrapped so moisture cannot tamper with the results. These come unwrapped in the tube.

Just installed a water softener and was very curious to see how much the hardness changed. These tests were perfect. I tested our hose which is fed directly from our well. The test read 25 which is the number we got from a lab. Testing the water that has been softened read 0! Super simple and fast to use. I do wish they came in a lower qty. for less since I will not use that many.

I bought these because I wasn't sure our water softener was working.Turns out the softener wasn't working, called repair guy, he fixed issue and even had me RE-TEST water after hours after he left to check for the softness.

I tested the strips against city water and softener water twice and the results came back identical.Before this I got a TDS meter which sucked and I ordered these strips and am very happy with them.highly recommended.

Needed test strips for checking water hardness to setup my coffee machine and as a pretest prior to installation of water filtration system. These test strips are easy to use and only takes 30 seconds to get results. The package contains 150 strips, so there are plenty of testing opportunities. I will be testing my pool soon.

Bought these to test our water after our household water softener seemed to stop working. We weren’t sure whether the softener had stopped working as the water started to feel hard to us and scum seemed to build up on shower screens. Did multiple tests with these strips and each time hardness level showed up as ‘soft’. Had the softener device engineer out and our machine is completely dead and needs replacing. His test kit revealed our water is hard so while easy to use, these strips don’t work. Waste of money

Yup, these are very accurate. I read some mixed reviews about whether or not they are accurate, but trust me they are! Wanted to test both the effectiveness of my new water softener at my newly built house, as well as ascertain that I had programmed it properly for the actual water hardness in my area. I got the City supplied water hardness number, set it for that, then tested the water both running THROUGH my softener, as well the water to the yard which bypasses the softener. So I did side-by-side tests on two glasses of water. The unsoftened city water (bypassing the softener), is VERY hard and the test strips show brown-red; whereas the test strip of the softened water stays the unchanged pure green color. I've been running this test every single month for 4 months now to make sure everything stays programmed well, and the results are absolutely consistent. Very affordable and effective test kit. The strips come in 3 sealed packs of 50 each to help them stay fresh. It was very important to me to have a kit with accurate and demonstrable results I could rely on because I have a brand new house with all new plumbing and I want to make sure I'm only running softened water through it. Simple to use. Highly recommend this kit.
