I’ve purchased three of these. One was DOA - Amazon replaced it promptly. The other two function and are nice at the surface level, both after extened multi hour continuous use end up overheating. They trip an internal circuit and turn off. They function again once cooled. Met: if you are using intermittently or for short periods they work just fine. But for extended use under load they have hearing problems.

Pros: This is a very nice addition to the home workshop, enabling variable speed control to most power tools. I use this device to slow down my bench grinder and my wire wheel, when their native speed is too high for some applications. The controller is able to support up to 15 amps, which is adequate for most home use. To allow a motor to overcome starting inertia, it is best to set the dial on the controller to full voltage, then switch on, and gradually reduce power as needed. The included power protection circuit is also a nice way to avoid burning the device out if accidentally used for a 20 amp motor.Cons: The device is a little lightweight. I owned a similar device which only would operate motors up to 8 amps, so it was limited, but the heft of the device was more substantial.
