I bought these to remove drive screws in data plates. The drive screws have a 5/32 head, so really small and hard to grip. A co-worker recommended them, and they worked flawlessly. I am sure I will find other uses, but the cost was well worth avoiding the headache of removing these frustrating little guys. My co-worker has owned a pair of these for years and they are still sharp. Beat up, but they still do the job, so I can attest to their durability.The actual fit and finish is great. There is absolutely zero play in my new pair, or in my co-worker's well used pair. The grip material is great too.As just another pair of pliers, these are overpriced. But if you plan on using them to remove drive screws or any other button head screw for that matter, they are worth the price.

Having been a tradesman for decades now and more recently opening my toolbox up to upgrades and new ideas to be more efficient and effective, rather than stubborn. Having the, "Forget your fancy tools, my bucket of random hand tools collected over the years including not only a pair of overly worn Channel Lock pliers, a dual head mallet with a cracked handle, measuring tape that needed to be thrown out five years ago, universal screwdriver missing half the bits, bent needle nose, a Basic as basic can get utility knife and 'ol trusty. (A 24oz framer that probably weighs closer to 30oz) among other things, I ran my mouth a little too much, stating that I could do more with a bucket of tools than the younger hot shot foreman could do with his entire truck. I found myself needing to do a little upgrading. I won't mention other brands in the review but i'm sure you can find them from my profile or something as I slowly review the winners and losers. Let me tell you about these Vampliers! The name caught my eye, importing from the Land of the Rising Sun was a turn off BUT can J-A-PAN make the most amazing pliers you've ever wrapped your chicken chokers around! From first touch you can FEEL the quality, over ANY AND ALL your typical brands you can buy your Red Millwonkies, black and yellow bumble bee brand for the bros, Hooskies, Crapsman, ChanelSmock, etc etc etc.....the ONLY comparable pliers come by Klein and yet, they're not even close. You'd swear they were custom sized for your meat hooks, even I could preform delicate maneuvers with these babies! After using this particular pair for a week, I tossed all my old pliers and splurged on the full set. Now you won't be doing this as a DIYer unless you're trying to show off how much money you spent on tools that you'd never know the difference between cheap crap and amazing devices as such, apprentice? Keep dreaming buddy, in a decade or two once you pay your dues. Old dog looking for new tricks? Want to carry less in your bag/bucket but be able to accomplish more with each tool. Spend the dollars, the ONLY way you'll regret it is if you lose a pair and need to buy them again. Prone to leaving pliers or smaller tools behind? Put a leash on them, don't give these to some dim witted home owner who will toss them into a plastic fisher price tool box to never see the light of day again.Oh, and yeah, they'll extract rounded and damaged screws and bolts. Now now all you reviewers that 'did not work' lets tamper our expectations. You have to have enough head to grab onto first and most importantly the hand strength to grip the pliers and fastener......all those on line discussions and lattes maybe haven't given you the proper tools to use......the proper tools with, if these did not work for you, the problem most likely can be found at the end of the pliers, but before the chair. These are perfectly and amazingly made.

Vampliers makes different size and shape extraction pliers. Either buy a set or do enough research to choose what best suits your needs. I don't do automotive (except light self-repair), or heavy construction/industrial. I wanted something for household work, audio equipment, and theater staging. That means small to medium screws, often in tight places. I also wanted good wire cutters, to complement knippers and not have to bring full linemans (which are larger and heavier). Intermeshed teeth is an added bonus for general purpose work.The Brutes are a great compromise, and perfect for my needs. At first site, they seem small and light, but they fit perfectly in my average size hands, and the design is intentional. Their targets are often in tight spots, not to mention convenience (they slip easily in a pocket and don't drag your pants down) so bigger isn't better. The action is smooth and solid, and the handle grip is just right. Not sticky or slippery. I did get my hands wet, to test, and they give up some grip, but don't feel dangerously slick. Makes sense as vampires don't like water.I tried them on a number of screws, and they grab really well. I like them better end-on, but they also work from the side if you need more leverage (or for holding the screw on the back of a bifold door, to tighten by twisting the knob). I haven't stressed them, but they haven't slipped off yet, under pressure, which was my biggest concern. Note that they do bite, as their name implies. That means they WILL leave tooth marks in screw heads if you bear down. You do need a little bit to grab, so countersunk screws are still sunk. But they can grab a brash tack and pull it out of drywall no problem. Saves prying if used on wall decorations.The wire cutters (new and sharp of course) are GREAT. Down to flat stranded wire and small solid core, which is often a failing. The one thing they didn't go through was the outer rubber sheathing on 3x14ga. It's a soft rubber, and the very last bit just compressed and had to be pulled off. They can't quite flush cut, and won't replace nippers, but are otherwise very nice.Now that I've seen the quality--they're my first Vampliers--I will covet, but probably don't need more. When I get a new tool, I usually try them out on a number of things right away, and the Brutes are great so far. Now I need to find some really bad, stuck, stripped screws and put them to an acid test.It may seem like a lot of money to spend, if it's not for your job, but quality doesn't come cheap. While they are a specialized tool, they are general purpose enough that you can make them an everyday carry, start conversations with them (based on the name and purpose), and be the hero when you can get that screw out. Or just be the one who has "those really cool pliers".
