Connected directly across the power supply rail, when a voltage spike is encounter, the varistor rapidly changes impedance from its normal high impedance state while in standby mode, to a very low level, permitting absorption of the unwanted high voltage and protecting voltage sensitive components and circuits from damage.

Two of these and the bridge rectifier need to be changed out for your crappy 12v Power supply is to work for more than a couple of days. These are the good ones and what comes in your board are, well, not.

It’s not a verisistor And will explode if connect up to a power supply. It is a thermistor. Check out the numbers in the picture that’s what they send you not what is described.

I got these because the one in my Eventek 10A power supply literally burned until it was crispy and disintegrated when I touched it. I soldered this one in and the power supply works again.
