I had to replace my monitor a few weeks ago. Being just a couple weeks after Christmas, there were few options. The old monitor had speakers built in. The replacement did not, so I had to buy a separate speaker. I don't use the speaker for music, just alarms and notifications, so I did not want to spend big bucks for high quality speakers. At $8.99, I definitely got what I paid for.This speaker works as it was designed, which I think was maybe an exercise in poor design. The short 39 inch audio/power cable limits where here it can be placed unless extension cables are used. Those cables are molded as a single cable with just a short few inches split at the end, which is a problem if the audio output socket and an available USB socket (for power) are not real close to each other on tower computers (it is OK for laptops). That cable connects to the speaker at the volume control end which compounds the short cable problem if the computer case sits on the floor under a desk at the left of the user's feet, as is my situation. The speaker has a bright blue LED light that surrounds the volume control on the end of the speaker. There is no power switch and not switch to turn that LED off. to turn that LED off. That bright blue LED ring stays on even when the computer is off.I guess this speaker would be OK for a child's laptop. For my use, extension cables and some black tape to cover the bright LED made it usable. I don't understand why everything for computers has to have bright lights and not have a power switch.

This speaker buzzes when you plug it into an audio port. It tends to give headaches caused by long periods of buzzing.

I bought this on a lightening deal and didn't expect much when I ordered it. I got it and plugged it all in and at first it didn't work. I knew right off why. I had to go into my computer setting and select what I wanted. It was set to headphones and it needed to be set to speaker out. It took me just a second and it was fixed. I put in so "old" 80's rock cd (yes I still have cd's) and was surprised how well the speaker worked. I mean it doesn't have the most wonderful base, but it is there and if you go into the equalizer setting on your computer you can set it more to your liking. I love the fact that it is hardwired so there is no lag in the sound. It is crisp and clear and will give you a nice sound for most anything you are doing. Highly recommend.
