Gigabit ethernet (which is essential on a civilized LAN, in order to access file servers - and I've seen modern broadband being bottlenecked by the 100mbit connections too) requires USB 3.0, since laptop makers don't built in ethernet ports anymore. And laptops are always desperately short on USB ports, and the fact that one of them is now a near-useless USB-C port only makes that worse. This hub and network combo device is an appropriate and affordable solution, though I have to say I preferred it when I didn't need to remember a dongle to access the internet because my laptop just had a network port, nor did I need a hub because the laptop had enough USB ports

I tested both this device and an older cheaper (discontinued) device of a different brand. When the test is testing both upload and download simultaneously on this device, the direction established second runs at half speed. But the older cheaper device is full speed in both directions at once. This device was full (1GB) speed in either direction alone, but when both directions are tested together the second direction gets 0.5GB while the first continues at 1GB.I don't know how much that will affect real world use. My home internet is limited to 0.3GB anyway, so speeds higher than that only matter between two computers within the house (which is how I tested). This one was $12. That is still very low cost, even though the discontinued product I compared it to was both cheaper and faster.

The product was great while it lasted, after about eight months the product stopped working and had to buy a different brand for a replacement.

Works. Ethernet pulls full gigabit when plugged into router. Fairly priced. Have not speed tested the USB but I generally don't care much for extreme speeds. Given RJ45 speed though I would suspect it performs well with USB as well.

Like many, I have a new laptop where there isn't a ethernet port, in order to support that slim look. This solved the issue of wonky wi-fi for me, as it is a USB-C adaptor that hasn't had any issues. It's plug and play so no need to worry about a driver, the cord is flexible, which is great for me since the switch I'm using isn't close to my laptop - so this bends throughout the day.Yet, despite the bend, I still get steady speed, I don't have to adjust it like you would a headphone back in the day, and while others have to complain about wi-fi, I don't.

The recent Ultrabooks (like Dell 7350) come with a minimum of type C USB ports, and thus conventional peripherals (keyboard, mouse, external USB camera, SSD, etc.) cannot be connected together. Besides, for fast and reliable network connection I am using wired Ethernet, and my new computer does not have RJ45 port. This hub/USB Ethernet adapter is a perfect solution, its slim metal case and 3 USB ports are perfect fit. It does not require any special drivers for Win10+ computers, and works immediately after being plugged into computer. It certainly meets my expectations and cheap enough to always have a couple in home office.

I just had this a bit over a week or two, but so far the connection is great. I bought this to replace another brand I had a few years that started to lose connection off and on.The extra usb ports come in handy, there is a light showing it is working, the fit is solid. If there is a change I will update. For now a recommend from me!
