Only negative is that line level is plastic. Picture makes you think it is metal.

Arrived broken, too much of a hassle to send it back.

Works as intended, don’t need the string level and yes the handle is cheap plastic and will not take much abuse. As a way to dispense and store string this device will work for my use. IMHO this is a better quality string than I have bought in big box stores and if I get a summers use I will be happy with the purchase and buy a new one when needed.Growing up and working with my father in the cement trade he always used a short section of 1x to wrap his line around, have to admit it was durable and worked as well as this device.

I used this string to set all my posts for my pole barn and it worked fine. The string is good and strong. The reel is just plastic, so you have to not be too rough with it, but it lasted through the job setting 22 posts. The line level is fine, but I didn't really use it much as I was spanning long distances where it's not really accurate. I tried it out on a couple of short spans and it worked fine though.

Cheaply made. The string is pink to start and then in 2 or 3 days it fades. The string is on a cardboard tube which quickly disintegrates. It is cheap, but I thought it was a dedicated piece of spool and string. It is just a cheap piece of plastic that carries a short cardboard spool of thread. I was only able to use it once for a slab pour and then threw it away because without the cardboard spool intact, you have a difficult time re-winding the thread

We bought a cheap roll of string at a local hardware store to use on a building project. Soon after I had to order something from Amazon and, after reading the positive reviews on this Stringliner, went ahead and added a roll of it to the order. It is MUCH easier to use than the cheap stuff as it stretches very tight. A word of advice if using it in this manner: stretch it tight BEFORE you cut it and you will use a lot less. The first piece we used on a 60' span and cut it before stretching. After stretching and tying it off we had about 6' left over.
