We love these reasonably priced- high quality canvases. My husband's studio is full of them - and we willl continue to purchase as available.

Here's why the front of the canvas frame is not smooth: Instead of have a flat wood frame surface the the canvas is stretched over, for some reason the frame is a 45 degree angle - so the front edge comes to a point about an 1/8" thick. That makes the canvas edge have a ridge all the way around the front surface. I hesitate to try and wet it to stretch it taught, then I might not be able to return them.

One of the canvases was damaged and I had to repair it before using. I was very disappointed. It had a slash in the canvas.
