Sears Kenmore Refrigerator evaporator (inside) fan motor issues:Date : 7/27/20241. The description on Amazon for the shaft size is incorrect. The metal shaft is 0.125 inches diameter, not 0.33 The hex motor mount is 0.33 inches. It would be nice if AMAZON also listed the output shaft length.2. ‘Out of the box’- prior to installing, the shaft would not turn. It was ‘locked down’. I loosened the two Phillips-head screws on each side of the motor assembly which allowed the shaft to spin freely. The screws were over-torqued at the factory. Apparently, there is no factory test performed before shipping.3. For my application, (original part number # 2188848) the new shaft was too long. I had to cut 0.175 inches off the end of the shaft to make the fan fit the housing. You could leave the shaft long, but the amount of air flow is diminished because the fan blade is sitting outside the fan housing. I didn’t try another option which might have been to drill a hole completely thru the blade hub and slide the fan further onto the shaft allowing the extra shaft to protrude at the front. The manufacturer should include modification instructions with the part if this is a universal part. Homeowners are usually not refrigeration techs and do not work on this on a daily basis.4. The new motor was very noisy. It did not appear to have any grease or lubricate on the shaft or bearings. If you buy this part, I suggest you add your own lubrication before installing.5. The electrical connection spades are located in a different position than my old part. Fortunately, I had enough extra wire to make up the connections without having to add more wire.6. One of the new spade connectors had hot melt glue holding down the wire. The female connector would not completely slide all the way onto the male connector due to extra glue. Is this standard practice to glue over the solder connection or just a bad manufacturing repair? See my picture with the blue circle.I want to thank all the previous posters who alerted me that there could be issues and how they solved them. This appears to be a universal part for many different models, not an exact match. I have to give the supplier low marks.

Seems to be the same OEM manufacturer as original Whirlpool part. Was not oriented the same as my original, contacts had to be installed on the back and not the front as the part can only be placed one way. The shaft on this is shorter then the original but was able to trim the bushing back and get the fan on enough to not rub etc..works with modification. Original part number was W10131845

My husband usually goes to a local parts place about twelve miles away in heavy traffic to get appliance parts but we ordered this evaporator fan motor for our refrigerator from Amazon, and it was a perfect match for the old one he replaced. Our refrigerator is now chilling to 40 deg and our freezer at -2 deg. it was a ten minute job to replace the part ourselves and saved a lot of money, inconvenience, and driving in big city traffic.

The motor works exactly as it should. Delivery was very fast and saved me after an undeliverable order. Only problem was the shaft for the fan was shorter than my model. Cut 1/4 inch off the shaft collar and works perfectly.
