HOW TO INSTALL THE AUGER MOTOR

  1. On the bottom grate under the hopper, locate the 4 screws that hold it in place and remove them
  2. Remove the 1/4-inch bushing screw (Screw holding the auger to the grill frame). With force, try to pull the auger motor back and forth by hand to loosen the jam
  3. Using a 5-16-inch socket wrench, remove the Shear pin, freeing the auger from the Auger motor.Once the auger is free, disconnect the old auger motor and connect the replacement

NORMAL AUGER MOTOR BEHAVIOR

It is normal for the Auger Motor to sway or rock at times. Some movement will be expected as the auger turns to feed pellets through the auger shaft

HOW TO FIND UNNORMAL AUGER MOTOR BEHAVIOR

a) With the Switch OFF (o), locate the small fan blade on the back of the Auger Drive Motor

b) CAUTION! While watching the fan blade, turn the Switch ON (--). If the fan blade does not turn, turn the Switch OFF (o). This indicates a defective Auger Drive Motor and it will need to be replaced

c) If the fan blade turns a bit and then stops, continue watching and turn the Switch OFF (o). If the fan blade UNWINDS slightly, this indicates a jam in the Auger system which will need to be cleared

d)DANGER! Turn the Switch OFF (o) and disconnect the Power Cord

Remove the Pellets from the Pellet Hopper. Check for foreign objects and wet or decomposed Pellets, both of which can cause a jam in the Auger system. The Auger will need to be removed to clear a jam in the Auger system

My old camp chef auger motor was dead and was causing the fuse to blow when starting. I followed camp chefs troubleshooting advice on their site which systematically walks you through how to determine if it is the blower, hot rod or auger causing the problem. Figured out the motor was the issue. Ordered this one and installed yesterday. Worked perfectly! My only wish is that it would have arrive quicker.

I made a rookie mistake and didn't empty my hopper and auger over winter. As you can guess the pellets got damp, swelled & jammed up the auger. Apparently these little motors give it all they've got to do their job. My original must have stripped the internal gears, which led to a replacement. The new motor arrived next day and was easier to install than I would have guessed. It fit perfectly and is doing it's job. The smoker is up and running & all is well.

Upon install it started up then blew the fuse on the controller board. Disconnected the auger motor and replaced fuse to prove out any other component was the cause and the grill started fine. As soon as I connected the auger motor and started the grill again it immediately blew the fuze. Unfortunately I'm outside the return window as only just managed to find the time to install the motor.

Easy install. Works as good as the original. My pitboss 850 pro was up and running about 20 minutes after amazon drive dropped it off!

Purchased as a replacement because it had an upgraded motor, but it too failed after 4-1/2 months. (original motor lasted almost 3 years) Problem: After turning on the pellet grill, setting the temp would give an Err code. Meant that the motor failed and would not engage to push the pellets through the auger. Had high hope for this item as it seemed like a durable & quality piece of equipment. Wished this would have lasted a lot longer and that it had a longer date for a return since it is an electrical & mechanical item.
