Using Battery: Using Six (6) NiMh AA cells, this will provide 7.2V to the radio.
If you install 6 AA Alkaline or Zinc Carbon cells, it will provide 9V and the radio will not go into transmit.
If you must use Alkaline or Zinc Carbon cells, use five of them and a dummy AA, this will set the output voltage to 7.5V.
Note: all voltages quoted are for open circuit.

I've had this a while (about 2 years) and use it fairly often. I load it up with 6 AA Panasonic Eneloop Ni-Mh rechargeable batteries and this thing lasts just as long as the factory battery - maybe even a little bit longer. So while I'm charging up my factory battery I can use this - or - just load this up with some freshly recharged AA batteries. Fit is good but it takes some extra effort to lock it in place.

Arrived quickly. I do appreciate that the description mentioned that you should use 6 batteries to receive, but 5 batteries in order to transmit. Now I just need to figure out the best way to do that.

I bought this, along with rechargeable Nimh batteries and a charger, to replace the battery on my TYT TH-UVF9 handheld transceiver. This radio is important to me, because I inherited it from my mother (silent key WB7OIU) and I couldn't find a standard replacement pack. I have been surprised by how long the radio can be powered by these rechargeable batteries. The case is solid and fits well.I consider this better than the original battery. Yes, it makes the overall radio a bit bigger, but it seems worth it.
