Turkey Call

Useful Tips

turkey call

Made with 2 sided glass and slate surfaces, a vertical laminated walnut and cherry pot, and a 2-piece purple heart and hickory striker

turkey call

  1. Yelp - draw the shape of a small hook—like a bream hook. Start at about 1 o’clock near the top of the sweet circle and move the striker right-to-left to make the hook shank. Then come down a little and around to finish off the hook. Just don’t come too far into the middle of the call.
  2. Cluck and Cutt - To cluck, put the tip of the striker in the same place and give it a little downward pressure. Then just pull toward you until it pops off. It’s like striking a match. To cutt, apply a little more pressure for a louder, sharper sound, and string the clucks together.
  3. Purr - Make a very small letter C, using mostly your fingers to move the striker. You can mix the sound up a little by drawing a tall C or a squat one, or even coming straight down the call.
  4. Tree Yelp - The very edge of a pot call is too high pitched, and the middle sounds dead. In between is what I call the sweet circle, a 3⁄8-to 1⁄2-inch-thick band all around the call. Always keep your striker in it.

turkey call

  1. Yelp - Simple, but effective. Yelp to locate and attract gobblers.
  2. Kee Kee Run - a good call to try out to bring a flock together that is trying to reunite after being scattered.
  3. Tree Call - Use this call when you are set up on a roosted gobbler waiting on him to come down.
  4. Cutt - Use this call to excite or heat up a hen. When another hen is cutting at you, you can use those same excited cutts to draw her into range and therefore drag the gobbler with.

Well dang, I'm going to expose my newbie status here. I got this thing because the reviews seemed pretty good, even though the price was right up there. The round 'scratch here' part came with a protective glass cover. After spending some time trying to remove the protective glass cover -unsuccessfully- I thought to do some research. IT'S NOT A PACKAGING PROTECTIVE COVER!!! It's the 'business' part of the thing. It seems you need to scratch it up with the included sandpaper thing, then start with the instructions on how to get various calls. It would have been nice for the Mfgr. to include the initial tidbit of info to scratch up the glass for we neophytes. That said. I scratched up the glass, tried a couple of scrapes, and got some turkey-like sounds. I'm in for some practice, but at least I didn't break through the glass to get to the slate-like disc.Buy again if needed? Yes.

Needed something with a bit louder and sharper than a slate call so I went looking for a glass. While a bit pricey, the ESH laminated glass does work and it works well. Sounds nice after conditioning. Just wish they wouldn’t pre condition that one small corner as I conditioned the whole half in a different direction and it still appears even after serious conditioning

Great for long range calling and locating. Sharp and will vibrate the ear drums if played correctly. I use a number of strikers to find the loudest and softest combinations for this call and keep it in the turkey vest.

As a turkey hunter, I try new calls from time to time. While I carry this one with me on every hunt, it's just not my go to.

I'm not the best caller, as i started turkey hunting about 4 years ago, so don't take this review too seriously. This is a good, quality call. I was looking to improve from a basic slate call and this one does just that. Takes a bit longer than expected to season the glass, so just use trial and error. A bit pricey but overall probably worth it.

Misplaced my strikers and bought this last minute. Used it on my glass call and shot a big Tom within a 45 minutes. The tone is a tiny bit different then my others but I had to keep it out of principal and good luck. Note: I did find all my strikers before my hunt but chose to use this one. Happy hunting!

Great sound, easy to use, best of all the double sided creates a variety of sounds, can make it appear there are more birds then there is, so far very effective for me. Also having an old school slate is nice on those real humid mornings, sometimes the glass gets to slick so it’s an added insurance policy.

This call is beautifully put together. I am a beginner at turkey calls and this call couldn't be easier to use. Included instructions show you how to make yelps, purrs, clucks and cutts. It really is a great sounding call and is very easy to use. In fact my 6 year old was intrigued by it so I was working with him on making some basic call sounds and he was doing quite well with it. Buy this call you won't regret it. Kudos to ESH for putting together such a great call!
