Its melting point is 6150 F (3400 C), the highest of any metal. Tungsten also has the highest modulus of elasticity of all metals. Tungsten Wire is straight, 30 or 60 inches long. Chemically, tungsten is relatively inert. Pure tungsten metal in the form of wire, rod and sheet is important in the electric lamp and electrical industries. Industrial applications include electrodes for inert gas welding and electrical discharge machining. ASTM F 288-96 Type 1A Commercially pure 99.95 percent.

This wire is used to make filaments for an ion source. My home-made filaments work just as well, last just as long, and are much less expensive than those purchased from the manufacturer.

I used this wire as a support in a ceramic wood firing kiln because the kiln reaches temperatures as high as 2500 degrees F and Tungsten is suppose to have a melting point of 6191 degrees F. There was nothing left of the wire when the firing was over, it completely disappeared (or melted).

The tungsten wires were bought for research activities, and the quality is very good, would buy again if they are available!

I use this wire to manufacture filaments to be used in a vacuum for providing an electron current. The current evaporates various metals which are then deposited on a substrate. The tungsten needs to be cut with a small diamond wheel and then can be formed with a custom made wire bending jig. The wire can be formed around a pin of .085" diameter without problem. The price is good and delivery is great. This is my second purchase and I will purchase again as needed if it is still available.G. Heagney owner of GL Machine

The tungsten wire is being used as a straight electrode. Works quite well. There was a small section that was very slightly bent, but other than that, perfect.

Used this as the filament in a light bulb science project. It creates a shockingly bright light!
