A very solid (heavy block) I have no way to attest to it's accuracy in terms of flatness but it works for facing small parts with appropriate abrasive sheets just fine.

I'm not sure what "Grade B" means, but am guessing it might be because the flat surface on mine has one very (VERY) small indent flaw that I can feel with my fingers and fingernail. Will it affect what I need the block for? Not a bit.Good value and good product for small and medium projects.

I'm using this as a work surface and not as a reference surface, so I don't really care about it as an engineering reference tool.I believe they're getting the supposed accuracy by applying some flat black coating to the outside of the stone. I wish I could remove it. After several attempts I've abandoned trying to remove the coating. While in the product photos this might look like black granite, instead it looks from the underside where it's not painted, to be more of a rose color. So if they're thinking that by painting it black you'd believe you're buying a darker/harder granite, it's not black granite. I guess I don't know why they painted it.

This surface plate is a very inexpensive for what it is. Short of second-hand plates, which may no longer be true, it's nearly impossible to find a better deal. It arrived in good order -- the packaging might have been a bit excessive, with padded box inside larger box with more packing material. The only visible shipping issue is that the corrugated cardboard left visible scuffs in the polish of the surface. I've already put it to good use, and it makes a perfect surface plate for all my shop needs.

Surface is super flat. For the money, nothing comes close. 0.003" tolerance advertised. The actual certification that came with mine had the tolerance at 0.001" of perfect flat. Shipped fast, by the manufacturer not Amazon. It's better quality than I need, I use it for sanding knife scales and pistol grips perfectly flat and as a hard surface for leather crafting. If you need a surface plate, this is a good choice.

This stone is fantastic. I like the size and the accuracy in my home shop. I use a height gauge on mine. It sits on the back corner of my work bench and provides a ready surface for inspection as well as marking steel for cutting/ machining. I covered the bottom with felt by gluing it with carpenters glue. This allows the stone to be slid around on my bench top without gouging or scratching. Nice upgrade project if you get one of these. 2" thick is just right. I don't see the value in getting the 3" unit for one that is only 9 x 12 - perhaps you do. (In fact, a 1" thick would probably suffice for the home shop). Looks cool too.Chris Clark

This works perfectly for what I needed which was a completely flat surface to sand guitar nuts and saddles in order to lower the action. Adhesive sand paper sticks and provides the consistently flat surface I was looking for.
