The unit comes with a floating AC output. That means it is ungrounded on the output side which is what you want when testing devices on an electronics bench. In days past you had to open the case and unground it, not any more.

Flipped it on, then when I flipped it off and on again the whole power switch went inside the device...part of the plastic was broken...was this even a new item?

Using it as replacement for 30+ year old Tripp Lite power regulator. Currently has 60" plasma television connected, fantastic picture clarity and color. No hum heard unless you put your ear right on the unit, then a very faint hum is detected. So for practical purposes, a great clean power source for A/V systems.

I received my Tripp Lite IS1000HG recently and planned to convert it to a tech transformer by disconnecting the neautral from the ground. When I opened it up there wasn’t a connection between neautral and ground and the switch didn’t light up. I suspect this was a returned unit that was already modified. Not sure what to do with the switch not lighting up. I haven’t put a load on it so I am hoping the switch circuit breaker is ok.

At considerable savings, I bought a used one from Amazon marketplace but what I received was indistinguishable from a new unit. I've also used a Tripp Lite IS500 (not hospital grade) and the main difference I noticed, aside from color and current capacity, is that this one is dead quiet. Under load, the IS500 does make an audible hum, but this one does not.
