If you want a good Slipper clutch and don't want to deal with the old Style I'd get this one. In the Instructions it says that it won't fit with the older black battery box this is untrue take a Dremmel and round the side out and your good to go

I burned up the slipper on my classic 2.5 tmaxx and instead of going with the OEM slipper pegs in the spur, I went with this kit.It took some light fabrication moving the gas tank mount holes slighly on the chassis to make this fit but it didn't take much. I enlarged them to slide the tank back like the 3mm needed to get the spur to clear the tank.

This seems like a better slipper than the old style with the buttons. I was replacing those buttons a lot and had to keep adjusting them even mid-run or I'd just start eating the spur itself. It was just a lot of trips to the local shop...that was years ago though. Dreading that, I purchased this as I rebuild this Maxx into a 4WD 3.3-powered T-Maxx.Disclaimer: I believe I have a Frankenstein's Monster here. I bought this SportMaxx with a 2.2 (non-R) engine in it and really feel I have the eldest of the Maxx builds, probably the 1st run with a 1.8 originally and the prior owner put in the 2.2 when right before I bought it. All of my chassis parts are black and my grey remote control still has the pull-up metal antenna. Take this review with a grain of salt knowing that my model is the grandpa or the Maxx.Disclaimer #2 for aged Maxx builders: Get six 5x11 bearings from Avid or others available on Amazon with this order. You're doing more work than normal to get to an open transmission and it's a great time to replace all those old bearings in there. This part is stated for the original (all black parts) T-Maxx w/o optidrive. Optidrive is on the 3.3 models of various Traxxas models and all my parts are black, so I'm good there. I remove the transmission, pull it apart, nothing out of the normal here thus far. I pull the gear they want me to pull and compare the gear they supply; It's very different from what I have. I have one gear and the new one has two gears on the shaft. Fine, I come to the assumption I have a single-speed transmission with just forward and reverse...time flies as it's been sitting for a decade. At this point I could upgrade to the 2-speed but it seems the pricing is out of the question for these older builds since I'm going 3.3 anyway. I'll do this again later if need be.Moving along with the upgrade. You can not use this 2-speed gear in a single-speed transmission; It just does not work. There are roll-pins in the gears holding it to the shaft. Drive those out with a drift-pin (I used a spent rivet found on the shop floor), swap gears, and it works just fine. All gears mesh, case comes together nicely, and all is well. In my case, I just had to adapt and none of it were on the blame of the part description...I just have an old machine jumping many steps ahead in evolution and what makes doing this fun as a hobby!Adjustments feel so much easier to do. 1/8" turn on the lock nut goes a long way and stays that way once broken in. An 1/8" turn on the rubber buttons wouldn't last long at all even on a 2.2. The trio of "brake pads" just does a lot better than the erasers, holds up better on the bigger 3.3, and is a must buy if you're putting in the bigger engine. Also, pulling apart and putting together the older contraption took some patience because the small plates and small drive pins are a mess on the old design.Side talk about this item: I don't understand the need for a wheelie bar if you have your slipper clutch adjusted correctly. Let the slipper do it's job, slip a bit, and then run like a banshee! If it wheelies, think of all the parts you're stressing after this part. The 3.3 is pretty powerful and if it gives full power to the drive-train all at once, stuff will break. Unless you like flipping over at 1/16 throttle in 6 inches of vehicle travel that is. There's a rebuild kit available still so let it do it's job and save some money down the road. Replace the pads but do it much less than the eraser buttons.I highly recommend this product. One star lost from only the unknown but is a "Must Buy". Nothing is perfect and I'll attempt to find it in time. If the pads become unavailable, it's the end of this item because I can still revert to the eraser buttons I guess. Maxx stuff is becoming rare and feels like we're purchasing surplus like one would a 1966 Mustang.

Worked perfectly on my husbands Traxxas truck. I don't know too much about all of this, but he was very happy with this product and told me I could give it five stars on Amazon.

I got sick of replacing the slipper pegs and gear, so I ordered this. BIG difference, bolted right on to my 2.5r T-Maxx tranny, and we got another for my buddys 3.3. This product is for the "classic" trans (the black one). This thing has been run HARD on both trucks for about 4 months now, not even showing signs of wear yet! We are aggressive drivers and these clutches were the best upgrade to date. Power transfer is astonishing. If they ever do wear out, you can order the rebuild kit.-(cheap) They are adjustible too, to control the amount of "slip" depending on how much your running gear can take.Overall a great upgrade I highly reccomend it.
