I replaced my original knob with an identical one and it broke immediately. I then purchased this newer version and am delighted. This one was much easier to install, tightened easily and works perfectly. Spend the extra 7$ and buy the yellow clutch knob instead of the black!I have the old school cycle ops fluid trainer.... it fit fine. I did not run into the problems some of the other reviewers did. There is no need to bend the L- bolt.

This is a no-brainer upgrade, because it's like having a torque wrench for your trainer. I broke the L-bolt on my first one, because I never really knew how much tension I was putting on it. This knob just stops tightening after you've reached the correct tension.UPDATE: I've owned this for a couple years now, and recently had the L-bolt break right at the bend. I was a little frustrated, because I thought this was supposed to make that never happen again. I emailed CycleOps with a picture of the broken piece on a Thursday and they sent a replacement part the same day. The replacement part arrived the following Monday, free of charge. That's some of the best customer support I've ever seen!

It definitely replaced my broken factory original kettleball type knob effectively, the clutch is a nice feature.

Very useful for setting consistent trainer tension. The -1 star is for the complete lack of installation instructions. The Clutch knob is for both new and old Cylcleops models, but can be tricky to install if you don't know what you are doing. The trick to installing the knob if you are replacing an older style knob: disassemble the current knob, remove the old l bolt. Insert the new longer L bolt. With a large screw driver unscrew the knob from the threaded insert that attaches the knob through the resistance unit. You can then attach the new knob to the l bracket.

Piece of junk didn’t work at all no clutch ratcheting just a yellow knob that turn like the original black knob had to return for credit

I purchased for a Graber Mag trainer I got several years ago. The Mag trainer is the same design but a lower quality as the CycleOps Mag trainer. Work like a champ. My wife can easily set the tension now as compared to 2.5 turns on the tiny knob which sometimes required a towel wrapped around it for grip.

The clutch knob works so much better than the original "guess when it's tight enough" knob. The only issue with the upgrade kit is that it doesn't fit older Fluid trainers right - the L bolt has a much larger curve in it than the original L bolt (which had a straight 90 degree bend) and as such it doesn't line up center - you have to bend the bolt so that it fits the trainer and the knob tightens at an angle instead of being dead-center. Regardless of the bad fit, it still does the job much better than the old knob, so it's a good upgrade.

Wow, this upgrade is fantastic. I think that this should be packaged with every trainer they sell. I use 2 different bikes on my trainer, and this makes sure I get the proper tension every time I switch without worrying about it. Just make sure your tires are inflated to the proper pressure every time.

My original L bracket broke. I'm glad it did because this is so much easier to use and tighten. And I know I am not over tightening. It is so easy to use. Works like a charm. Totally worth the money.
