On Saturday I notice start.ca was listing a new 250/20 service in select cogeco areas. They have since dropped that listing, because the offering does not go live until October 1st. On Sunday I ordered this modem, as it was on the supported modem for the new service. But by Monday it was dropped from the list, because Cogeco sent out a new list of supported modems. It took me awhile to realise why Cogeco dropped this modem from this speed tier, since it is more than capable. Then I notice Cogego's website now lists a 60/10, 120/10, 360/20, ... They dropped the speed tiers between 120 and 360. So anything that does not support 360/20, will be blocked by Cogeco for anything about 120/10.I was sadly disappointed, because despite the fact I ordered used, the modem looked absolutely brand new. I liked the simplicity of the design. It is well vented for cooling. I was really excited to see what this modem could do.

My downstream power levels increased by 2-3 dBmV compared to my old DCM476 modem, although upstream went down slightly by 0.5-1 dBmV. It's definitely a worthy trade off because my lines are decades old and every little boost helps. It's also been rock stable as far as internet connection. Looks like my previous modem is showing its age at 6 years as it was causing intermittent down times. The TC-7610 is about as warm the DCM476 to the touch, but since the natural position is standing up versus lying down, all the ventilation holes can freely disperse/intake air. With the DCM476 modem, I had to purchase tiny cushions to stick them underneath in order raise it above the surface it was on for more air; with the TP-Link there's no need.

Update:It has been about 2.5yrs now since it was installed and we have had no issues with it, aside from it accidentally being unplugged once. It recovers well from power outages and service interruptions... and best of all, it remains active when the Spectrum phone box dies. I have had the phone box replaced two times in the last year due to the same issues of non-responsiveness. At my grandmother's age she requires stable phone service, so I added an ObiHai on the internet connection with another phone so she will still be able to call out for help.I recommend this for an inexpensive stable cable modem upgrade if you need a separate modem for internet and/or when your speed is 100mbps or less... just stay away from TP-Link WiFi routers as I have had very bad interoperability experiences with them.---I recently upgraded my grandmother's cable modem, as the boxes TWC Spectrum provides for the phone/internet seem to have more issues than a standalone cable modem. So, now it is running on a different coax jack in the house and the internet is now very stable... while her old phone box still has issues (especially in the winter and summer temperatures).

TP-Link gives you good products for a good value. I used this as my modem for Teksavvy internet. All I did was login and change the admin password (but if you want, you don't even have to do that).

So far it seems to work ok. It seems as this is a used modem (cables were a bit of a mess and modem/adapter has some dust & such). Time will tell.

I bought this to replace my cable modem through Xfinity. When we signed up with Xfinity the salesman said that even though there's a $10 monthly rental fee for their modem, to hang on to it so that we have a baseline to compare a different modem against. He highly encouraged us to buy our own as it will pay for itself within months. We pay for 100mbps with Xfinity and almost never achieved that, as a byproduct of cable internet service (shared service with speeds that vary dependent on regional usage). After a month with the original modem, I purchased this TP-Link one based off of the highly scientific comparison method of determining which one was cheapest but still had a high volume of reviews that averaged at least 4 stars. This one currently has over 2400 reviews with a solid 4.5 rating, which gave me some confidence.Install was very easy, but when it came to connecting our wireless router (Samsung Connect Home 3-pack, in my case), they wouldn't sense any internet signal, even though if I connected our laptop to the very same ethernet cable, everything was just fine. A somewhat lengthy call to Xfinity to explain the issue and have some very patient techs work their voodoo magic to figure out what was going on took care of it however. Once that got straightened out, I got WiFi established and was good to go.Naturally, I was curious what the internet speeds would be compared to what I had just come from. I'm not sure what the explanation for this is, but the initial speeds were actually pretty disappointing. 20mbps disappointing. I was hoping for at least 70+. No luck. It varied for the first several days however with speeds very occasionally reaching 50mbps or slightly higher, but usually hovering in the mid-20's. I was disappointed to say the least, but figured I was at least saving the $10/monthly fee from Xfinity.Over the next couple of weeks however, speeds dramatically improved with LOW speeds now usually hovering around 50-60mbps during peak times and highs occasionally reaching 120mbps! The average itself is usually around 80mbps, which I couldn't be more pleased with. For the $40 (approx) I paid for this, I couldn't be more pleased. In terms of actual size, this is probably 1/4 the size of the huge Xfinity modem. Speeds are much better than Xfinity's modem provided and are consistently so, and the LED indicator lights on the front are much more subtle instead of large and bright. In 3 more months this will have paid for itself, after which point I truly am saving $10 a month. If you do have monthly rental fees from your provider, I can't give enough thumbs up for this budget modem. Good job TP-Link!

Excellent value, performance, and compatibility with Comcast Xfinity internet.I was beginning to have serious problems with my Motorola SB6121 cable modem (4x4). It could no longer establish more than 1 upstream channel and was logging continuous ranging retry errors for the other 3. It served me well for years but I decided it was time for a new modem. My service level is Performance which in my area is 25/5. I did not want to buy an expensive replacement. I found the TP LINK TC-7610 on Amazon and it looked perfect. A $40 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem on the Comcast approved retail purchase list! And I was not disappointed.I swapped the TC-7610 in place of the SB6121 without changing anything else on my network. All I did was power on the modem and wait for about 5 minutes while it established connectivity, installed some Comcast specific firmware (?), and then rebooted. After the modem lights where all on solid I was good to go.I opened the Edge browser under Windows 10 x64, entered a URL, and was taken to the Comcast online activation page. You have the option of entering an account number and phone number. Or you can sign in using your Comcast online account name and password, which is what I did. After that the activation of the new modem was completed in a couple of steps and I was up and running with no need to call Comcast!Performance and stability has been excellent. The cable modem you receive in the frustration free packing is exactly the same as the retail box version, only cheaper. I am currently on a 30 day Prime free trial so I selected 2 day shipping, but I actually received it overnight. Plus it was delivered by an Amazon Flex driver.
