How to Charge the Capacitor

  1. Remove the fuse connecting your audio system to the battery, typically located in-line with the amplifier's power wire.
  2. Wire the capacitor per the installation manual, ensuring the power, ground, and, if applicable, remote turn-on wire are connected.
  3. Use a resistor to charge the capacitor. Resistors are often included with the capacitor, or can be bought separately.

Caution: Discharge by replacing the battery with a wire. Avoid direct contact. Monitor voltage with a voltmeter until it reads zero.

I am using this in my gasoline golf cart in front of a class D monoblock bas power amp. I have the 12v LiFePO4 100AH battery but the bass drops out a little and isn't (wasn't) as solid as it should be. This capacitor does seem to shore up the bass power, keeping the higher power sustained bass notes solid full time. It seems to be well built and I haven't noticed any heating issues. I read where other folks don't think it is as powerful as rated. While I didn't get this on a test meter, for my needs it has made a noticeable difference in bass and sustained bass.

Nice capacitor. Easy to install and set up. The braces hold it down really well. Looks nice and doesn't take up a ton of space. Keeps my headlights from dimming which was the main purpose. I wish it didn't light up so brightly but it's in the trunk so I guess it doesn't bother me that much.

As far as this fixing voltage drop, the voltage actually went down a couple tenths when heavy bass will hit. But I think that's because it is pushing the power to the amp, and trying to charge itself at the same time. It did affect the way the bass sounded though. The bass has a little bit better punch, it sounds cleaner, and it doesn't fall off on longer bass notes. I tried to do a little bit of research before making this review just so I could get some information. It used to be to determine what size cap you would use, it's based off how many watts your system runs. If you have a thousand watt system, you would need a one farad. But then I came across an electrical expert on YouTube, and he recommends 50 farad per 1,000 Watts. And there's something else this cap will do, if you have any electrical interference coming through your speakers, a cap will clear that up. I had just the touch of an electrical whine with the volume all the way down in the car running. After installing this, that whine is completely gone. And after doing a little bit more research, that's what these style caps are actually good for. If you have a thousand or 1,500 w system with some electrical noise that you cannot get rid of, you can add a 0.5 farad cap, and it usually will eliminate it. In the package you get the cap, you get a charging resistor, which you do need to use, a discharge bulb, which you also need to use if you take it out, along with the mounts and the screws and the Allen wrench.THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART, you are going to get the cap mounted, get the ground hooked up, and then you will have to hold the resistor on the cap and the other wire on the power coming to the cap. It might not do anything for about 30 seconds, but the LED lights will start coming on, and you will eventually get a voltage readout. The cap is also going to put out a consistent tone, and when that sound goes away, around 10 volts, that's when you can hook the positive cable to it. And it did take a good four to five minutes to completely charge it up to 10 volts. I had a one farad cap before, and that charged up quickly, about 2 minutes. So not great for stopping voltage drop, but excellent for removing unwanted noise from your audio system. It may not be the fix for voltage drop, but it does have its place.

There has always been somewhat of a debate as to cap or not to cap your car audio system. I decided to try this product and by appearance this product appears to be solid and well made. This comes in retail packaging and presents well. They included a small instruction manual and the needed hardware to install this and a resistor to do an initial charge when installing. If your lights on the car dim during heavy bass then this product can be helpful in keeping power to your amp. There is a fair bit of weight to this but what is inside cannot be determined without a destructive opening of the product. The meter is a nice touch and the price point reasonable.
