I've used a lot of lab notebooks through the years but this one so far is my favorite. I've been using this kind of notebook for the last 5 years. I like that because of the spiral binding that it lays flat when open and it's easy to fold it all the way back without the paper bowing up like in other notebooks. I've never had any issues with it falling apart or pages going missing. I also like that the pages are numbered so I can create a table of contents in the front to make finding important notes faster.

I usually buy these for work and personal projects (engineering, circuits, math etc), and will continue to do so.NORMALLY, they are fine, new, and crisp. However, the last qty. two I bought came moderately beat up for some reason... looks like they had been sitting in a closet for 20 years with bent up corners, a delaminated cover, and uneven, overly yellowed pages. One even had adhesive residue from an old UPC sticker on it. Looking at the cover title sticker, these have a copyright date of TOPS 2003, versus normally TOPS 2017.Just check them to make sure yours aren't beat up when you get them, looks like the seller is going through a batch of "old ones". I'll still keep the beat up ones I recently received as they aren't cheap ($20/ea.) (they'll go to the bottom of my pile), but just wanted to put this out there.

I ordered this and also the ampad version which is five dollars instead of 25. I can’t discern any difference other than the paper in this seems a TINY bit smoother. The binding, cover, paper layout is all identical. There is also no information on the book about what kind of paper this is, but the ampad one certifies that it’s both recycled and acid free. So I have no idea why one would pay 20 dollars more for an identical notebook. I’ve tested my fountain pens in the ampad version and they seem to work fine, so I’ll be returning this. If someone knows if there is actually some difference in the paper quality it’d be interesting to know.

Very high-quality notebook. I find it to be an excellent book; whether I am using it for drawings, computations, or not, which supports my learning and educational needs.

This product is a bit expensive, but it's also the best notebook that I've ever used because of the grid lines + page numbers + good quality paper + metal spiral. The one thing that could be improved apart from the price is the retention of pages since they tend to fall out. The comb bound spiral is nice for removing pages intentionally but it's unfortunate when it happens unintentionally.

VERY DISAPPOINTED !! I bought this based on good reviews however my experience was not so good. My background : I am an Engineer and I take and keep design notes copiously on a daily basis. For years I have used the AMPAD computation Note books but I decided to give TOPS spiral bound a chance. I use fountain pens for all my engineering notes. The first 40 pages or so of the notebook were joy to write on. Very nice finish and almost zero bleed through of ink to the other side and absolutely no blotting of ink (almost as good as Rhodia Pads). However from page 40 till page 63 the paper quality took a nose dive !! Almost like a bad quality blotting paper. Ink bleeds through to the other side and also acts like some kind of blotting paper. Looks like these pages were not coated with whatever the rest of the notebook is supposed to be coated with !! Besides I can even feel the difference in the paper quality and colour. I have attached a photo. Obviously a quality control issue and looks like I got a bad one.UPDATE 3/17/2015:I CONTACTED TOPS AND THEY IMMEDIATELY AGREED TO SHIP A REPLACEMENT FREE OF CHARGE AND ALSO TO LOOK INTO THE QC - GOOD JOB

I'm an engineer and prefer the quad-ruled notebooks like this for drawing diagrams and charts. The paper quality is excellent - much thicker and a better writing surface than the several cheaper alternatives I have tried. I've had no issues with bleed through and the numbered pages save time numbering them myself. The best part of this notebook for me is the size: I can tape a full size letter (8.5" x 11") printout onto a page without any trimming and still have some room to label a title/date. The spiral binding also has an advantage over other types in that the book always lies flat and can even be folded to present only one page and take up less desk/bench space. It doesn't look out of place in a formal customer meeting any more than in the lab. The soft cover has held up very well to daily use carrying to meetings around the office, back and forth to home in a backback (fits in a laptop sleeve), and being stacked up with other books/papers. I've even received compliments from my colleagues and been asked where I got it so they could get their own (instead of the crappy notebooks our office typically issues).

This is the best computation notebook I have ever used. It is pre-numbered, which is AWESOME. The double spiral bind makes it sturdy and ensures that the wire doesn't start coming unwound. The size is also fantastic. It is large enough that you can tape a whole 8.5 X 11 inch piece of computer paper onto one of the pages and still have it neatly contained and not flowing over the edge of the notebook.I'm kind of a paper junky, so here's my little rant on the paper quality in this notebook. The paper is niiiice. The kind of paper that your pencil or pen just glides over top of and actually imprints on. None of that glossy stuff. You know what I mean. It is thick and sturdy, and is also tinted a sort of dull yellow-tan. If you use F.lux on your computer, it looks like that tint. This is ideal for lab work, since you will likely be staring at it in a low light environment for a long time. It's essentially the perfect kind of paper to do computations on or use as a lab notebook. Glorious. Finally, the front is a burnt orange color rather the red you see in the picture here. For me, this is a huge bonus, since it makes the notebook more muted.10/10 do recommend.

I bought one of these notebooks recently after using the similar Ampad 22-157 for many years. Recent reviews for that product warned of cheapened quality, so I figured I'd give TOPS a try. This TOPS book is everything I have been accustomed to from the other company for 15 years. - The paper is very heavy. I can write in pen, on both sides, in small print, and it is always legible. Cheaper paper blurs ink and bleeds through to the back. - The pages are large and grid lined. There's plenty of room to add updates and annotations. - The binder rings are sturdy. They don't bend or unravel, and they allow the book to be laid flat or folded all the way around. - The pages and cover are sturdy, too. They don't tear loose. The only doubt I have about this product is its value. $20 is a lot to pay for a notebook. The similar Ampad sells for $16-17 here on Amazon. How much has its quality dropped recently? I don't have a recent copy to compare.
