Topping E30 II DAC Preamp Audio Decoder- 2xAK4493S Hi-Res XMOS XU208 DAC 32Bit/768kHz DSD512 DSD Direct Mode6/4/2024 2335 Hours EGMT...OKAY🫠🥳🤩---received the Topping E30 II midday, was having a late Brunch, then some work, & later in the evening, I turned off My TV & AUDIO setup, then unboxed and connected THIS-new DAC in place of a Digital Audio Converter I've been satisfied with for 10 Earth-Years. Turned everything back on with the flick of a Surge-Protector Power Strip toggle, & went back to watching YouTube on the AMAZON Fire TV-Cube (after being an original ROKU User on PCs back in early 2000, up until ROKU tried to force Me to acknowledge a hostage/extortion Agreement), AND the 🔉🔊"Sound"🔊🔉 quality (😳😝😃) was so surprisingly, STUNNINGLY-amazing that I had to sit down (except; that I was ALREADY sitting on the Sofa🙃)!Ever had (or have) an experience whereby you're so familiar with something that using it is like second nature---& it works so well, you REALLY-can't imagine something else could be SIGNIFICANTLY better😏, well that's how comfortably pleased I was with My (formerly-current DAC), until listening to people talk, & some 🎶🎼🎵Music🎸🎹🥁 in the Video📹Blogs after hooking up THIS TOPPING E30 II, was as though they & the Musicians were actually in the Room with Me😱😄.AND the wild thing is, I don't yet have a working knowledge of this $149.00 USD hand size DAC. Did a lot of reading, researching comparisons & Reviews all over the Net & YouTube, but I'm gonna tell you---NOBODY really spit out the real deal. It immediately contributed to significantly enhancing the Bass, Smoothness, separation clarity of high 🎶notes🎵 (Treble) & 🎺🪇Musical Instruments 🎷🎻. All I can think, is what's going to change when I really KNOW how to properly work with this Topping E30 II😃!?GBJ😎

Great sound! I prefer its sound to my Schiit Audio Bifrost 2/64. The Topping is a bit more forward-sounding than the Bifrost. I like having the LED display, too, which the Bifrost doesn't have. However! -- I bought the Topping E30 II to explore DSD. The specs say it goes to DSD512. It supports up to DSD256, but not 512. This failure to meet the spec has cost it one star.UPDATE: I've upgraded this to a full 5-star rating! It DOES support DSD512. If you use Foobar2000 to play DSD, you need to be sure you have the correct components.

Coming from a FiiO D3 I'd say this is a really good upgrade. The sound quality is fantastic, I can't imagine anything sounding noticeably better. The feature set is also really nice, especially the auto on/off and pure dac features. I'm using the optical toslink input with a mac mini running debian Linux and the Logitech media server software. From this I play local flac files, CDs, and hi-res music from Qobuz and I really couldn't be happier with the results. I did want to use the USB input instead of toslink but the auto on/off doesn't seem to work in this mode, but that might be because of how the USB audio output works on my setup. Overall I'm happy I bought this and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality dac.EDIT: Still using and enjoying this DAC. Just wanted to update that I found a way to get the auto on/off working on Linux when using USB. Using the lsusb command I got the idVendor and idProduct of the DAC. Then you edit/create the file /etc/udev/rules.d/90-usb-power.rules and add the following line:ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="152a", ATTR{idProduct}=="8750", TEST=="power/control", ATTR{power/control}="auto"Those numbers should be the same for you if you have this same DAC so the lsusb part can be skipped. After that I rebooted the system and then the DAC was able to go into standby via USB.

I bought this to replace my Sound Blaster Z, and so far it's working flawlessly. Windows 10 detects it without any additional driver installation (up to 32 bit / 384 kHz), and I was able to power it with a spare iPhone charger. I'm using mine in DAC-only mode connected up to a set of powered speakers and the sound quality is excellent. The metal housing is also very solid, and looks quite nice on my desk. The only downside is the the single touch button on the front of the unit: it's the only way to change settings without the remote, and it's a bit of a pain to use. You also can't change the volume for the pre-out with it. Thankfully for my use case, I set everything up and don't need to screw with it again.I'd expect something like this to be priced much higher, and barring any future hardware failures, I'm extremely happy with it.Edit: Knocking off a star as the unit seems to have an issue where it will disconnect from my PC with a "pop" through the speakers, and get stuck with "OFF" on the display. In this state, the unit is unresponsive to both the remote and face button. The only way I've been able to solve this issue is to unplug the unit's power and plug it back in. This happens roughly once every 2-3 weeks.

I’m using the e30 as a DAC between my iMac and integrated Sansui 2000x amplifier. I compared the e30 to the sound from my CD player and they are very similar. Sound quality is noticeably better than going directly from iMac to my integrated amp. I also compared the e30 being used as a DAC to my Scarlett 2i4 DAW. The e30 is better. If you are a vinyl enthusiast, vinyl is still best. Don’t think. Just buy and enjoy.

I've been recording and producing records and film music since the 70s. I wanted to update my home system to approximate what "audiophiles" are listening to these days but I've been skeptical about "cheap" DACs. I watched lots of reviews. This one isn't rated that highly by the HIFI mavens on YouTube, but it's impossible to know what kind of ears even very knowleadgable guys have, and this price range was doable for me as an experiment. Well this unit sounds abolutely great, very lively and open with 6 quite useful and different musical sounding filters. As far as I can hear the version II of this model has solved the reported problems of first E30. It's a good buy.

TLDR; Did a lot of research, Topping E30 is a great value DAC, saw some issues w/ polarity. Took a chance to get it now, and turns out no issues w/ polarity it's serial 2004+ 😊I spent probably a month deciding which DAC to buy. I spent hours debating whether I needed or wanted balanced XLR for future upgrades. I was comparing what all essentially seemed to be similar offerings with different feature sets from Geshelli, SMSL, and Topping. Then I stumbled upon the E30. I waited patiently for the new SMSL M200 DAC to have some reviews which I was sold on previously. I realized that the M200 was overhyped and not especially great value. If the E30 was balanced, it would be the end-all DAC in the price range. I don't know if it matters; the sound quality produced by the E30 is incredible. You can look at oscilloscope readings that tell you why a DAC is the best, which scientifically has the cleanest signal. The E30 tests are remarkably high, it tests similarly to DACs more than 300% of its MSRP on many tests. WOW. This includes linearity, distortion, and dynamic range. It made me rethink whether I even cared if a device had a balanced XLR output. I started researching the minute differences in RCA and XLR to determine if I even really cared about XLR. As much as I would like to have XLR for a powered monitor upgrade and to feed a 789 in balanced mode, most powered monitors still include RCA. Additionally, RCA doesn't suffer much degradation in signal comparatively over short distances. All of these factors led me to conclude that the E30 was something that hit the mark high for budget DACs. So high in fact that I was willing to buy this with 0 reviews from HiFi-College marked as manufactured by KGUSS. I can assure you, it is the right DAC with the right serial, and it is fantastic. Stop hesitating, just get this.Things I've learned:1. Check the manual when you get it and switch it into DAC mode if you don't want to use the preamp. The display will then only display bitrate and no longer function only as a DAC.2. I would suggest leaving Windows volume at 99, without a longwinded explanation it allows a tiny amount of overhead for the DAC to function well. More information can be found by searching DACs and the Gibbs Phenomenon.
