Folds up like a suitcase, sturdy, easy to assemble (no tools, all connected), Easy video to show how to put together, side door with springs to hold the secondary transport cage or trap.Expensive, but worth it. A Lifetime purchase. Would buy again.

I am so glad I finally shelled out and got this. My cat had been missing for a month and a half and was too elusive and smart to be caught by hand or with standard traps. But the first night we set this drop trap up we got her! So easy to set up and use, and the sliding door to attach a smaller trap for transporting the cat was rock solid. My only suggestion is to really put something heavy on the anchor like the instructions suggest. I used 2 rocks but they weren't heavy enough and my cat nearly knocked the trap off the porch before we ran over to stop her.Would absolutely recommend for anyone with an elusive or person/trap shy cat.

It was never my intention to feed, water and provide shelter for 3 dozen feral cats!! Yes...you did read that right! But two summers ago when the herd was still manageable, I was laid up with cancer surgery and treatments and the herd exploded exponentially!! I still had some issues last summer and well, you know how cats are......So there are around 3 dozen now.......I belong to Cats Anonymous so get a reduced rate through them to catch, neuter and release. Trouble is, I live 1 hour from participating vets and to run back and forth borrowing and returning traps was time consuming and costly. So I bit the bullet and sprang for my own drop trap. It functions MUCH better than the traditional live trap. I set everything up and stand off to the side with a spray bottle. When a cat with a tipped left ear goes into the trap for the soft cat food I've baited it with, I use the squirty bottle to inconspicuously spray it and chase it away. It is getting harder and harder to catch the right ones because, well....I have 36 to choose from and have been getting them TNR'd as fast as I can afford it. So lots of tipped ears to chase away, but this trap makes it much easier to catch the right ones!!

I tried catching a very injured cat for almost 2 months now using one of these Havahart humane traps and it was a no-go, he was way too smart for it.. I decided to buy this bad boy the "Tomahawk Drop Trap" and within 3 days this cat is now caught. All I did was attach a fishing line to the 'leg' and when he was chomping away, I gave a quick and strong pull and down it went. I had a concrete block to anchor the trap which was very useful. I didn't have any special transfer cage, but I had one of these transport carry-on for pets. I was able to "macgyver" a way to get him into it and now he's finally somewhere safe. This drop trap works. Havahart works only on the very dumb or too curious kitties. Now, understand that it took 3 days.. Why? I would bait the trap with lots of food, enough to feed at least 6 hungry cats.. They see one and other come in and out.. They figure it is safe. So, with patience, you can wait until the one you really need to trap gets in. You need to be quick on the pull. What was nice in the way I was set up is that the fishing line is so fine, it could be pulled from inside the house with the door closed. Suffice to say, because of this trap, this kitty is now safe and sound and I will be able to get it the medical attention it needs. It's worth the investment.

I can't tell you how happy I am with the Tomahawk drop trap! I have been trying for several months to catch a female kitten to get her spayed before she got pregnant, but she's very smart and wouldn't fall for the regular live trap, having seen her mom get trapped to be spayed. The drop trap was my last hope, and it worked the first time out. I had it out on the deck for a few days while I waited for the transfer cage to arrive ( I thought I might be able to save money and use my live trap as a transfer cage, but came to the conclusion it wouldn't work, so ordered the regular transfer cage a week or so later). She got used to it being on the deck and wasn't suspicious, thank heaven! The wood on my deck is kind of rough, so I did put a smooth wooden wedge to make sure the metal prop would slide easily and quickly when I pulled the cord, and that worked really well. Although the drop trap and transfer cage were a significant expense for me, believe me, it was worth every penny! I will now use it to trap 2 very shy males to be neutered and get their shots. Anyone who has feral cats that are too wary of regular live traps should try this type of trap.

I used a wire basket with a stick for 10 years. It worked great but didn't have a door. I'm so glad that someone realized some cats are too smart for other traps and improved my make shift design. This trap is wonderful with the transfer cage. It is very large so you don't have to worry about getting the cats tail caught under the basket. I love this!!!I have just tried using this for the first time and wanted to update my review. I still love the concept but have found that the basket is actually too big. Getting the cats trapped is a breeze, the problem is getting the cats to go into the transfer cage. I tried putting can food in the transfer cage and that didn't work. You have to be there with the transfer cage in order to put the sliding door down once they are in it and the cats do not want to go anywhere near a human. I spent hours trying to get the cat to go into the cage before I finally lifted the top of the trap and tried to catch the cat. Needless to say the cat got away and I haven't seen him since. There has to be a way to make this work, I just don't know what it is.
