I have ridden literally 10s of 1,000s of miles on endurance horses using a Toklat pad. Bought this one and it doesn't seem as thick as the one I bought 20 years ago. We will see...

Updated to 1 star from 5. After one wash per manufacturer instructions, it’s a lumpy bumpy matted mess. I am returningNo longer Love the feel. No longer comfortable. Protecting my horses back is very important.Update: One of the main reasons I purchased this pad because it is washable. The time finally came that washing was necessary. Although I carefully followed instructions, my pad is no longer fluffy and soft. I washed in cold water with MELP and air dried. It did come clean but it is now lumpy. I have tried brushing it out as recommended but this is causing the wool to come out. I am very disappointed because we otherwise love this pad. :(Hoping Toklat will take it back and exchange.

I have this pad and it's been in use for over 2 years and still going strong. It's ridden countless conditioning miles and been used for several 50 mile rides and many Limited Distance rides. I ride gaited almost exclusively (2 Paso Finos and 1 Arabian), and I use an Imus 4Beat saddle on all 3 horses paired with this pad and so far, backs have ALL been A's at final vet checks.I use a power washer (no soap) to get it super clean if it's grimy, then toss it in the washing machine with some Euclan since it's wool. Run it through twice. Once with the soap and once just straight water to get all of the soap out of the pad.I highly recommend this saddle pad for both the casual rider as well as the endurance rider on a budget.

I would prefer being able to choose a darker color, such as light brown. However I do understand the value of it just being its natural color.
