These Lzcdelyxiao inductive proximity sensors are fantastic for hobbyists and tinkerers, and the uses are truly endless. Any time they come in proximity to a ferrous metal (and some other kinds of metals, too) you can get a clean signal. I find them especially useful for robotics projects, and their non-contact sensing nature makes them extremely handy. Every electronics tinkerer should have a few on hand at all times!

Trying to sense the passage of a 10mm diameter steel ball bearing as it rolls by. If wired as shown in on-line examples for the larger sensor (LJ12A3-4-Z) this sensor works very well and is much smaller, lighter, and cheaper. There may be better choices out there for this specific requirement but I couldn't find one. When looking straight at the target face of this sensor, it's 17mm x 17mm. It is 27mm deep. The plastic/epoxy housing might not be suitable for some industrial applications. For tinkerers and hobbyists, this is a very cool sensor. The small ball bearing must come within 3mm to be sensed and is sensed over the full range of the target symbol on the target face.
