This is a decent kit, minus the front/crank seal. It looks identical to the factory seal but it feels like it's made with inferior materials. The silicone gaskets that line the cover were good, except one side that was slightly longer than need be, but not a major issue. I ended up buying a National brand crank seal locally knowing that it's the most important seal out of this kit. Like I said, it's a good set, I imagine it definitely could be better. Time will tell..

I purchased a well worn 2004 Ford F150 XLT 5.4L 4X4 pickup truck last year. Suddenly my truck was sounding like a diesel with a new knocking sound, and it was idling rough, especially once warmed up. I'm a handy guy, but I'm no auto mechanic. My cheap returned Error Codes P0022 ("Camshaft Position Actuator A - Bank 2 Timing Over-Retarded") and P0345 ("Camshaft Position Sensor A - Bank 2 Circuit Malfunction").Armed with these symptoms and Check Engine error codes, I took to the internet and browsed some forums where I learned from those with experience that the VCT Solenoid valves may need replacement. I watched some YouTube videos and decided replacing these valves was within my capability. The other possibility was scary to contemplate: a whole timing system rebuild that would be outside my skill set (costing thousands of dollars). I decided to try the VCT Solenoid valve replacement using this inexpensive set, thinking that it is worth a shot (try the easy, inexpensive fix first). The consensus on the forums was that only OEM replacements should be used. However, this is an old used truck into which I want to avoid investing a lot funds (and a single OEM valve is about double the cost of this set of two). Fortunately, installing this inexpensive brand did fix my problems! The Check Engine light has not come back on, my truck is running smooth, and the diesel-like sound is gone. I was impressed with the quality of the product. The solenoid valves came vacuum sealed, appeared to be of solid build, and were a perfect fit. The screws ARE the captured design, which is important because you don't want to risk dropping a screw where it would be a nightmare to retrieve. Plus, it's a tight fit to get the solenoid valves installed, so the captured screws help. Thus far I'm very pleased (and so relieved to have a well running truck again at very low cost). Note that the top rated critical review is over 5 years old now - perhaps there was a problem with this product not being the "updated design" before, but my experience has been great (and as far as I know the design is spot on). While I didn't follow the OEM advice from the forums and YouTube videos, I did follow another bit of advice I leaned about this vehicle. I switched from 5W20 (manufacturer recommended) to 5W30 grade motor oil. They had compelling reasons for doing this that I won't get into here, but I did have the oil changed to a 5W30 synthetic blend while I was waiting for these VCT Solenoids to arrive. There was a perceivable improvement with the oil change alone.

**UPDATE** this kit ruined my engine, that broken crankshaft sprocket caused my timing to go out resulting in the piston heads meeting the valves. Now I have a truck I’m still making payments on with thousands of dollars of damage to the engine that just sits in my driveway and collects dust until I hit the lottery. THANKS AUTO PARTS PRODIGY!Bought this about a year ago. First month in, the phasers went out but I just decided to live with it. About 2 weeks ago I was driving and all of the sudden my truck lost power and was running super sluggish. Loud clanking noise came from the timing cover so I parked it. Bought the kit from ford (expensive but well worth it). I started to dig into the root of the cause and right when I took the valve covers off I could see the timing chain had slipped.. dug deeper and saw this. The crankshaft sprocket has almost completely rounded out.. save yourself the time, buy the OEM kit.
