By holding the rail 2 inches in front of the blade, changes the angle of the blade teeth causing the blade to "bite" the rail and sometimes tears up the rail rendering it damaged. Went back to using a wood block

I thought this tool could help me with the installation of some quarter round wall trim. I didn't have a miter box, and it looked like a piece of quarter round could fit and then I could saw it at the angle needed. Well, there is no slot for a hand saw, I guess this must really just be used in some fixed capacity on a table or tile saw. Not sure how comfortable I would be sliding a blade next to it, but for a cross cut probably would be good. It is very thick plastic and a good looking tool...if you can find a use for it. I have used it to just see how square my corners are in the house before cutting, with a shear type tool, my quarter round. I did go back and look at the photos and saw that it might be possible to slot thin metal in it, and that could help me with some transition strips. Otherwise, this will quickly become a pretty unused tool in the garage.

I mainly bought this for when I'm working with tile trim but have started working on this with wood trim as well. More recently, I used this on a stone based material and I was able to get a perfect 45 degree angle cut. The tool itself is made very well and very stable and sturdy. While I do little side jobs on the side, this is definitely great for beginners and possibly professionals, not sure if they would need something like this but that is just my opinion. I recently redid a small bathroom in my house and used this to help cut tile, tile borders and even a stone type material as a boarder. Not only did it help make sure I got a 45 degree angle but it made things so much easier and faster for me rather than constantly cutting and not getting where I needed it to be.

I'm a tile installer by trade with over 30 years experience. Measuring and cutting the right angle on certain tile trim, such as pencil trim has always been a challenge. I've seen this tool come on the market fairly recently and figured I'd give it a try. It's made from heavy duty plastic and finished well, so it looks like a good quality tool. It took me some practice to figure out exactly how to inset pencil trim in this gadget to get the correct angle, but once I did, it gave me perfect 45s and enabled me to trim out a shower niche and cap off the top of the shower walls instead of using typical bullnose. A nice look, a nice and neat appearance. Practice on some scrap and you'll get the hang of it, I expect to use this a lot in the future. Recommended for the pro and the DIY'r.
