When I bought my hullivator kayak racks, it came with these tie downs. I added another rack (Rhino racks) to the other side to carry two kayaks and wanted the same tie downs. As much as I love these tie downs, I’m rating it as a 4 star because I purchased carabiner clips to the tie down ends so I can tie down to the tie down clips on my car. I didn’t like the hooks the tie downs came with.

This is a great solution for tying down the bow and stern of a canoe being carried on a car roof rack. It takes as much of the time and rope knot complexity out of the process as it is possible to do! One piece of advice though: After determining the length of rope you actually need, plus a safety allowance, cut off the excess and seal the cut end against fraying via lighter flame. This will save a LOT more time spent routing and tying off the excess legnth on each rope each time you use the kit!

Putting heavy metal clips in the vicinity of a windshield or the body of a new Jeep Cherokee while this clip faces winds of 65-70 mph is the silliest idea since paddle-boarding. You will end up doing it only once. Peace out.

I already owned these from a previous purchase. I just needed another to secure an additional kayak. This was very similar to what I purchased from REI with the exception being that the color of the rope was a slightly different shade of blue. After a few months of use in salty Florida, the carabiners have begun to rust horribly, which mostly affects how easily they open. The actual ratchet seems unaffected by the salt. However, I'm on the hunt for replacement carabiners because safety. Oh, and a minor annoyance compounded by the rust—the carabiner has a sort of safety latch that easily snags the black loops used to secure the kayak. So if you don't pay close attention when you release the strap, you will be when you have to figure out how to unsnag it. Which isn't super fun on the side of the highway in Florida Keys as semis blow by.Okay, back to finding a replacement carabiner that fits the narrow ratchet.

Very easy to use these straps, simple and quick installation. When the ropes get wet, they will start to sag slightly, requiring periodic tightening. However, we have found this to be a must-have device for traveling long distances with our kayak. It provides safety and peace of mind!

Thule's quick draw is far superior than yakima's straps. It is way easier to attach and detach. And it holds my kayaks on my vehicle a lot more tighter and secure.
