Product Description

Thermal Grizzly AM5 Contact Sealing Frame

AM5 Contact Sealing Frame

Combination of Contact Frame and CPU Guard

The AM5 Contact & Sealing Frame is a combination of Contact Frame and CPU-Guard for AMD's Ryzen-7000 processors. As a Contact Frame, the AM5 Contact & Sealing Frame creates optimal contact pressure of the CPU into the socket, while an optional, included inlay made of silicone foam serves to protect the exposed components on the CPU.

Compatibility

The Contact Sealing Frame is compatible with:

  • Ryzen 7000 series
  • Ryzen 8X00G series
  • Ryzen 9000 series (First tests did not include the 9000X3D CPUs)

Characteristics

  • Encloses the heatspreader
  • Replaces the SAM of the mainboard
  • Made of anodized aluminium

Optimized Inner Contour for Even Pressure Distribution

The precision-milled inner contour of the AM5 Contact & Sealing Frame creates multiple contact points to the heatspreader compared to the standard SAM. These contact points distribute the contact pressure on the CPU evenly. This ensures that the contact surfaces of the CPU rest uniformly on the pins of the socket. For example, problems with the detection of system memory can be avoided this way.

Innovative Silicone Foam Inlay for Protection and Sealing

The AM5 Contact & Sealing Frame comes with a silicone foam inlay. This can be placed on the PCB of the processor, similar to the AMD Ryzen 7000 CPU Guard. When installing the AM5 Contact & Sealing Frame, the gap between the heatspreader and the aluminium frame is sealed by the silicone foam by pressing the foam onto the PCB. This prevents thermal paste or liquid metal from getting onto the CPU's unprotected components. The foam inlay is optional when used with thermal pastes, but mandatory when used with liquid metal.

Scope of Delivery

  • 1x AM5 Contact Sealing Frame
  • 1x Insulator Sheet Red/Black
  • 4x Pan-head screws UNC thread 1/4"
  • 1x Hexagon socket wrench 5/64"
  • 1x Angle wrench Torx T20
  • 1x Manual

Top quality contact frame. Fit my 9800X3D like a glove with no issues. Sure there is a cheaper option for these but i wanted to support Der8auer because what he does for the PC community but mostly because its a quality product.

I got two of these for my 9800X3D and 9950X CPUs and I got 3c ~ 5c cooler temps but this wasn't the main purpose the main purpose was just to have piece of mind I know there was cheaper options out there but no thermal grizzly or not I want to support the original inventors also I'm using these with thermal grizzly Kryosheets with Noctua NH-D15 G1 and NH-D15 G2 and oh yes the temps are freezing cold I don't want to deal with thermal peast anymore, Thanks thermal grizzly.

For AM5 this isn't completely necessary, but more of a peace of mind that the CPU is being supported with even pressure all around the edges of the heat spreader instead of by 2 clamps with the stock mechanism.I have recommended this to my friends as well.

I can see where this would benefit some, but I don't know if it helped me. This computer is in a server rack, so it's parallel to the floor. The CPU Cooler won't have any sheering force applied. It's more of a $24 piece of mind. Due know, when removing the socket retention mechanism, there is a chance for you to damage the CPU pins. TAKE YOUR TIME! Installation instructions are limited, so when installing this frame, make sure you seat it carefully over the CPU and tighten the supplied screws in a X pattern. Couple turns switch screws couple turns. Tighten the supplied screws until the stop. No need to really give it the beans. Once they screws stop, slap on your your preferred thermal paste, liquid metal or PTM7950. First time using one of these, I'd suggest it to anyone looking for a bit more piece of mind!

Admittedly there are several (much) less expensive options for CPU contact frames. I purchased the Thermal Grizzly design based upon der Bauer's professional reputation in the PC modding community as well as watching videos showing the company's precision manufacturing techniques and equipment. The updated design is simple to install and does not require a super precise torque specification. Finger tight in a cross pattern worked perfectly. Just be careful removing the stock ILM: bent pins can brick the motherboard, so it's a good idea to install the CPU then remove the ILM fasteners. Very happy with the purchase -- so much so that I got one for my Intel LGA1700 build. It's helping keep an i9-12900KS cool.

Functionally, this is no different than the Thermalright, which is a bit cheaper, but overall quality is better. It is a little more compact with no rough edges, and the gasket and frame seal nicely around the cpu. I still used a noctua am5 guard just to make it a little cleaner. Also, it's still more expensive than the competition, but much better than when they were selling for $40-$50.

The included thermal pad with this is confusing. It is sticky and gets dirty before you can even attach it. And without it, it feels like the CPU is not as stable in the frame. They need to wrap it in something.

Thermal Grizzly are well known for being one of the top contenders for high-end PC building. Their products have always been highly rated by enthusiasts and their Thermal Grizzly is some of the best rated thermal paste in the industry. The Thermal Grizzly AM5 Contact Sealing Frame is primarily used alongside Liquid-Metal based thermal pastes (This paste is liquid at room temperature and can very easily fry your CPU if not applied properly) to ensure that no liquid-metal is able to transfer to the motherboard. However, I have used the sealing frame alongside regular metal-based thermal paste (Thermal Grizzly to be precise!) and it has performed very well.It has helped improve contact of the AIO Cooler pump, and has resulted in a -3c temperature drop at max load compared to a stock CPU mounting bracket. Pretty impressive for a single piece of kit!Very easy to install, and comes with a silicone layer that sits comfortably inside the Sealing Frame to further protect any spillages from spreading past the plate. You can decide not to apply the silicone layer inside, but I would highly recommend it.Overall, very happy with the purchase and the difference it has made. It looks awesome too!
