Love Coburn in this! The film is a slow burn, a classic suspense thriller. The ending is unexpected but terrific. This copy looked and sounded good.

Coburn does a good job as a high-flying academic with his own little spy ring going who, having been selected for a higher position, finds his spy ring has to go.Most of the film is Coburn planning his operation and setting his victims up to kill each other, and then watching the plan unfold. And go a bit off the rails, which produces some excitement. But it soon gets back on track. The surprise ending is not much of a surprise, given the cynical nature of the plot.

A clever plot, an impressive cast but somehow the tension was a notch below what it deserved. However, it is always worth watching the gorgeous Christiane Kruger in her heyday.

I hadn't seen this movie in years, but it's one of Coburn's best! Lots of intrigue and mystery. No way you can guess the ending until you get there!

MR. Coburn is excellent in this film about a man primed for high ranking promotion who must 'see off' his old team of informants in a clever and dastardly way. Fine performances from a group of great thespians.

"the internecine project" isn't a bad film by any means but i had slight trouble in keeping up with the plot every now and then. the sense of intrigue and of suspense is fairly well-maintained as ex C.I.A operative james coburn attempts to eliminate those who could ruin his fledging career, in light of the fact that he has a rather shady past. this is a relatively short film at 85 minutes and i'm glad about this, otherwise the plot might have become a bit stretched out. it is always interesting to see a hollywood actor coming over to make a film in london and james coburn fits into the proceedings effectively. i regard him as being somewhat of an under-rated actor. perhaps not achieving the same level of stardom such as bronson or mcqueen, coburn doesn't seem to get mentioned that much these days which is a bit of a shame. amongst the sterling supporting cast, i would nominate ian hendry as giving the best performance as the rather nervous and jittery character who feels the pressure of coburn's manipulative behaviour. hendry is another actor who does not receive the credit that he should, he was and is a fine actor. other members of the cast are wasted somewhat as some of them only appear for one or two scenes and therefore, don't serve any real purpose with regards to the story. the ending is in itself a bit predictable as i had a good idea what might happen. however, it stills wraps things up nicely. the dvd transfer is a disappointment. the footage is grainy and the sound is rather faint and i had to adjust the volume on my t.v. a good film with a good idea for a story.

This is an old-school action/thriller circa 1974. That is why I watched it plus, I remembered how cool James Coburn was, back in the day. The plot is a wee silly, and the tension is not so tight, but I tell you, they certainly liked to drink and smoke in that era. I think Coburn has a glass of scotch in his hand through the entire film, even in the most critical moments where he needs his sharpest acumen. Lee Grant was always kinda hot and she is seemingly "air brushed" in her scenes. There are other oldtime actors you will most certainly recognize. The conspiracy aspect and oil futures issue is still relevant today. Don't expect quality picture, because it is that old. I did not care. It made me feel old and semi-nostalgic.

Popular screenwriter Barry Levinson wrote this interesting spy tale where James Coburn plays an advisor to the president. He plans it so four associates who know of scandals in the president's past kill each other off, the twist being that the second last to die first plants poison for the last one. But, poison paper is the key to end Coburn himself. Obvious inferences to Nixon and Watergate are what sparked the film into production. The death scenes are at times gruesome, including a Hitchcock-style shower strangling and torture with loud noise.

James Coburn plays a shady businessman who is about to become a special advisor to the President of the United States. However he has one problem, four people have information about his less than saintly past that could damage his future career. He therefore devises a plan where he will commit the perfect murder by getting these skeletons in the cupboard to bump eachother off. Will he suceed, well you'll have to watch to find out. Special mentions go to Ian Hendry who is adept at playing nervous, twitchy individuals, and Harry Andrews, who plays a woman hating masseur with relish. To sum up an excellent little thriller that is more thought provoking than most, and builds up quite a bit of tension as Coburn's plan unfolds
