I tried this kit on multiple surfaces and followed the instructions. Basically, the kit only works well on smooth, metal surfaces. It doesn't work on anything with a texture, even laminate desktop. I'm guessing this is because the fingerprinting dust the kit comes with is too gritty. The adhesive that comes in the kit was full of static, so stuck to the skin, basically tainting the sample.TLDR; I only got this kit to work on smooth metal, in a very controlled and careful environment. Even then it may not work.

This isn't a professional set, but it's also under $7. Our kids had a blast bringing their inner detectives out and exploring lifting finger prints. It's a good quality toy and for the price it's a great time. If you have kids who like this sort of thing it's a great experience.

Cool concept but it doesn’t really work that well. You literally have to grease your finger and leave a finger print if you want the dust powder to actually work. Small little kit enough powder to use a few times.

My young daughter (who loves Spy things) was able to lift a few prints when going through the process very carefully. The powder didn't seem to work quite as well as another kit I remember using a while back. Maybe something to do with whatever kind of white powder it is, instead of the typical black? There weren't as many pads to apply the fingerprints to as there are lifting stickers, either, so you get a hot dogs vs hot dog buns situation.I generally like Thames & Kosmos stuff, and will say that this is at least a useable kit, but would suggest you could probably find better elsewhere (though perhaps not at this price?)

this is a small little kit. it comes in a metal tin about the size of a deck of cards. maybe a tad bigger. its not exactly what i expected but was a lot of fun for my 6 and 7 year old and thats really all i can ask for. it comes with the brush, white powder and a few little pieces of clear tape. it was a little messy but the kids really enjoyed playing detective.

This was cute and fun for my big kid, 9yo. She and her friend did it together and enjoyed it. She's going to do it with her grandparents too and share the fun with them too.
